About Opendoor
Founded in 2014, Opendoor’s mission is to empower everyone with the freedom to move. We believe the traditional real estate process is broken and our goal is simple: build a digital, end-to-end customer experience that makes buying and selling a home simple, certain and fast. We have assembled a dedicated team with diverse backgrounds to support more than 100,000 homes bought and sold with us and the customers who have selected Opendoor as a trusted partner in handling one of their largest financial transactions. But the work is far from over as we continue to grow in new markets. Transforming the real estate industry takes tenacity and dedication. It takes problem solvers and builders. It takes a tight knit community of teammates doing the best work of their lives, pushing one another to transform a complicated process into a simple one.  So where do you fit in? Whether you’re passionate about real estate, people, numbers, words, code, or strategy -- we have a place for you. Real estate is broken. Come help us fix it.

About the team
The New Products part of Opendoor is a group of “startups within a startup.” Each startup is a small, cross-functional team working on one of Opendoor’s next plays.  We believe that “what got us here won’t get us there,” and we need to constantly innovate to fully realize our mission of empowering everyone with the freedom to move.  Each of the opportunities we’re chasing is highly strategic with the opportunity to become a household name in real estate.

For the right candidate, this role should feel like the best of all worlds: the funding, supportive infrastructure and gravitas of a public company; with a full-stack, scrappy team building from scratch, immersing in customer needs, and iterating fast.

Our team is unique within Opendoor, and also for the technology industry more generally.  We have c-level executive sponsorship to move fast and independently, and to build from first principles.  Our team has experience building from “0 to 1” at Opendoor, Square, Dropbox, Uber, and Y Combinator-backed startups.

About the role
We’re seeking Founder/ Startup PM types to work with our 0 to 1 bets. This role will work with a small team to iterate quickly and find product-market fit, so we’re looking for someone that has lead pre-PMF startups / products to understand the target customer, the problem to solve, and the best way to solve it.

You’ll collaborate with research, design, product, engineering, operations, and the CEO to define the opportunity and chart a path toward product-market fit and if found, work with the team to realize it's full potential. Most importantly, you’ll be part of the brain trust responsible for making the product a breakout success—shaping both the strategy and product direction.

Role Responsibilities

  • Work with the team to develop a strategy and plan to execute toward finding PMF
  • Talk to users to understand who to target, what specific problem to solve / what are the JTBDs, and how to best solve that problem / address their needs
  • Generate and prioritize what hypotheses to test, what experiments to run, and what areas to focus on to hone in on what could find fit while also ensuring the team isn’t prematurely optimizing
  • Gather insights and validate/invalidate hypotheses to figure out what works and doesn't work to help the team chart a path forward toward PMF
  • Identify key success metrics and goals to focus the team
  • Communicate status and insights with internal stakeholders

Experience/Skills Needed

  • Experience working on a pre-PMF product
  • 4+ years startup experience
  • Flexibility and eagerness to solve customer problems and get in the weeds
  • A desire to learn and grow with a small team within a larger organization
  • A startup mentality to be scrappy, operate with urgency, and bias toward action
  • Demonstrated track record of driving each step in product development: research, initial concept, requirements gathering, development/deployment planning, implementation, launch, testing, analysis, and iteration
  • Strong organizational skills and attention-to-detail
  • Great interpersonal and communication skills
  • Understanding of user-experience design principles
Note: We welcome candidates with no prior experience in real estate.
