WHO WE ARE:

We’ve come a long way from our origins as a small startup. Today, we’re a truly global fintech company, with over 3000+ people from 80 nationalities, spread across 22 offices on 4 continents. And we’re growing and diversifying faster than ever before.

WHAT WE DO:

Our card readers are used by over 4 million merchants to process payments in 36 countries. As we build a world where small businesses can be successful doing what they love, we’re continually expanding our range of products and services.

Starting with mPOS in 2012, we now help merchants connect better to their business, customers, and each other through our rich ecosystem of products and services. These include accounting, online shop and payments, SumUp card and account, P2P, loyalty programs, and business analytics - all in one place.

Our vision as a global fintech company is to build the first-ever global card acceptance brand. We rely on local, autonomous, cross-functional teams that can take an aspect of our product and perfect it from concept to execution.

About the team

The Processing Acquiring team is the engine room of SumUp. We manage the complex integrations with 3rd party acquirers, payment processors, and global card schemes that keep our "acquiring machine" running.

As our ecosystem grows, so does the operational workload of maintaining these critical connections. We are introducing this new Product Operations role to bring clear ownership and structure to operational change management. Your mission is to own and streamline operational change across our payments ecosystem, ensuring that partner updates, scheme mandates, and compliance requirements are implemented accurately and reliably. You will report to the Product Lead and work alongside a cross-functional squad of engineers and product managers in our Sofia hub.

What you’ll do

  • Own operational change: Act as the single accountable owner for all partner-driven updates within the acquiring ecosystem (e.g., file changes, MCC updates, scheme mandates).
  • Translate requirements: Interpret complex specifications from external partners (acquirers, Visa, Mastercard) and translate them into clear, actionable requirements for Engineering, Operations and Risk teams.
  • Manage the intake process: Establish and maintain a structured process for tracking and prioritizing incoming operational changes to ensure visibility and predictability.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally: Drive alignment across Engineering, Partnerships, Compliance, and Risk to deliver mandatory updates smoothly and timely.
  • Improve documentation: Standardise documentation of recurring partner updates and configuration changes to strengthen long-term operational stability.
  • Identify friction: Identify recurring bottlenecks in operational workflows and propose structured improvements to reduce manual overhead.

You’ll be a great fit for this role if

  • You have experience in fintech, banking, or regulated financial products.
  • You are comfortable operating in complex, integration-heavy ecosystems.
  • You think in a structured way and can manage a high volume of time-sensitive, externally driven changes without losing clarity.
  • You can turn ambiguous partner specifications into precise technical requirements for an engineering team.
  • You manage stakeholders confidently across time zones and functions, maintaining clear ownership in a fast-paced environment.
  • You are pragmatic, detail-oriented, and able to switch between urgent operational tasks and longer-term process improvements.
