When applying, please mention you found this role on WeLoveProduct - it helps Ev.energy track where great candidates come from 🙌

Founded in 2018, ev.energy set out with a clear mission: to make electric vehicle charging simpler, greener, and more affordable for everyone.

By downloading our app, drivers can easily charge their vehicles overnight while we work quietly in the background. Our smart-charging algorithm leverages real-time data to align charging sessions with energy from renewable sources. The grid is under increasing strain from EV charging at peak times - we're already working with over 40 utilities across North America and Europe to help them reduce this demand.

Our team, now over 100 strong, brings together expertise from National Grid, Tesla, Google, and Amazon among others. Backed by over $50 million in funding from top VCs including National Grid Partners, WEX Venture Capital, Energy Impact Partners, and JLR’s InMotion Ventures, we’re on a mission to drive meaningful change.

Join us in shaping a cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable future.

The role

We’re looking for a Product Designer II to join our team, where you will play a pivotal role in optimising our products and creating meaningful experiences for our users.

Our small but driven team is fuelled by empathy, honesty and hard work. As our newest Designer you’ll be working alongside our Head of Design to help find and deliver intuitive and delightful solutions to the problems faced by our customers and business partners.

Your focus will be on helping us deliver on our brand promise, be a brand advocate and create holistic, thoughtful designs.

We are a collaborative, hands-on bunch, and you might need to take on design projects outside of the job spec at times (we’re a startup after all!).

You’ll get the chance to dive headfirst into one of the fastest-growing industries in the world, with opportunities to grow yourself and a team around you.

What will you be doing?

As a Product Designer II on the Design team, you’ll…

  • Own the end-to-end design process from discovery to implementation, such as planning quantitative/qualitative research, aligning design with product strategy, and collecting feedback

  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering partners to define and prioritize solutions, and regularly engage with customer-facing teams (e.g. Program Management, Customer Support) to untangle complex technical and user experience dependencies

  • Use data-driven decision-making to identify key user insights and behaviours, and socialise findings to influence product development and strategy

  • Contribute to improvements of our design processes and ways of working for cross-functional teams to scale our Design team’s impact

  • Improve the consistency and accessibility of our user experience by helping maintain our design system’s component library, tokens, and quality standards.

What are we looking for?

You’ll thrive in this position if you…

  • Have a user-centric and analytical mindset with a proven practice of leveraging user feedback and data insights to inform design decisions

  • Demonstrate a history of shipping features with a high bar for craft.

  • Build effective partnerships with Product and Engineering and proactively engage with prioritisation, planning, and product/design strategy

  • Are self-organised, curious, and documentation-forward

  • Are passionate about solving climate challenges. We share a genuine interest in the clean energy and electric vehicle industry, with a commitment to driving positive environmental change

  • Have 2-5 years experience working for a B2C or B2B2C product, mobile app experience preferred

  • Bonus: Experience with design tokens and design systems

Interview process:

  • Recruiter Screen to confirm alignment with competencies and interests and gather information on availability, location, logistics (30 min)

  • Hiring manager interview to learn more about your experiences, skills, and impact (45 min)

  • Portfolio review with the Design team, to share your recent work, design process, problem-solving, and impact (1 hr)

  • Cross-functional interview with your PM and Tech Lead to learn about how you collaborate and build partnerships (30 min)

To apply:

Please submit a resumé and portfolio that shows your recent work. We are interested in seeing your problem-solving skills, the outcomes you drove, and how you collaborate with others.

Note: If your portfolio has a password, please add it clearly on your resumé.

How will we support you?

  • Work remotely and work well - we'll provide the tools you need to do your best (including a Macbook Pro), as well as access to co-working spaces

  • Access to conferences, meet-ups and training through our L&D allowance

  • A structured career progression framework and advancement opportunities

  • Depending on location - health insurance, 401(k) or pension, paid parental leave, life insurance

  • 25 days holiday plus public holidays

  • Annual team gatherings - in previous years the whole company has spent a week together in the UK

  • 100% charity matching to help spread good!

If you don’t have all of the requirements, but you’re really interested in what we’re doing - please apply anyway! We value applicants regardless of their background or years of experience. We'll also do our best to accommodate reasonable adjustments to the interview process if needed.

We are an equal opportunity employer and value diversity: we do not discriminate based on race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status or disability status. If you'd like a copy of our DE&I policy you can reach us at [email protected].
