The artists and labels on our platform have clear visibility into their royalty income, and our insights enable them to decide for themselves how their hard-earned dollars flow. Our growing product team is seeking a Product Design Lead to join our team and help Stem grow into the financial backbone of the music industry.

This role is full-time and fully remote, with occasional in-person get-togethers in Los Angeles for which we cover travel / lodging for out-of-town employees.

About Product at Stem:
Stem’s product team shapes our product offering both short-term and long-term.  We are responsible for:

-Bringing products and features to market while driving towards the company vision and achieving business results.  
-Deeply knowing and understanding our customers - primarily music artists and the teams that help them build their businesses (artist business managers, labels, and lawyers)
-Discovering customer opportunities and pain points, then innovating on solutionsUnderstanding the market and industry dynamics and positioning our offering within that context.
-Moving in lockstep with our engineering team day-to-day and cycle-to-cycle on build & execution
-Collaborating with Stem’s artist & label relations team to ensure our current and future customers receive product updates and are continuously providing feedback we can use to build our business

As a Product Design Lead at Stem, you will work with our design team and cross-functional team members, relying on both qualitative and quantitative data to make informed decisions to design products and features spanning financial reporting and payments, data analysis, and digital supply chain used by some of the most prominent creative names and companies today. 

By partnering with cross-functional teams and customers, you will turn your insights into delightful products in a creative environment that requires proven leadership skills and the ability to execute a creative vision.

What you’ll do:

  • Design engaging and intuitive end-to-end product experiences that considers potential states and how features and products work together.
  • Modify and revise existing designs to meet changing customer preferences.
  • Speak from the user’s perspective when collaborating alongside stakeholders, product managers and engineers to shape Stem’s roadmap and goals. 
  • Lead and participate in user research to develop a deep understanding of our customers workflows, needs, motivations and pain-points.
  • Maintain and contribute to the evolution of Stem’s Design Principles, Libraries and style guides with holistic consideration for the future of Stem’s product suite.
  • Create intuitive presentations of complicated data 
  • Identify new product improvement opportunities.
  • Analyze how a new product satisfies market needs and consumer preferences.
  • Stay up to date on current industry trends and market conditions.
  • Coordinate with other design team members to ensure consistent and accurate communication.
  • Work closely with product and engineering to suggest improvements for products and processes and to inform the implementation and building of  new features that meet Stem's straightforward standard.
  • Present product design ideas to cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
  • Contribute to the ideation, development, and launch of innovative financial features for creators and creative businesses.
  • Help independent musicians stay independent, by bringing fintech to music!

Our ideal candidate has:

  • 8+ years of work experience in Product Design
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent practical work experience in design
  • A well-rounded design portfolio of high-quality work, demonstrating a strong understanding of product goals and business objectives
  • Experience designing B2B, enterprise, and/or data-heavy applications
  • Proven experience in all phases of the design process including user research, copywriting, wireframing, prototyping, visual design, interaction design, and usability testing
  • Visual design: proven experience in upholding existing visual frameworks, and when appropriate, adapting new styles and patterns 
  • UX Design: proven experience in information architecture and multi-step and cross-platform flows. 
  • Ability to identify and flag where existing patterns break down, and to socialize and document new patterns amongst the design, product and engineering team.
  • Ability to move gracefully between the stages of the design process as needed, and to communicate and contextualize work along the way
  • An intuitive eye for customer needs beyond the obvious
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Collaboration with product managers, engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to understand requirements and provide creative, thoughtful solutions.
  • Ability to collect, interpret, prioritize and give effective and constructive qualitative and quantitative feedback
  • Ability to effectively communicate and persuade around design concepts
  • Passion for design; not satisfied with the status quo and always thinking of ways to improve. 
  • A broad set of design tools to best solve and communicate user flows, interactions, etc. such as diagramming, sketching, prototyping. 
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Dynamic, creative personality, effective at engaging and influencing a variety of audiences

It’s a bonus if you have:

  • Experience designing B2B, enterprise, and/or data-heavy applications
  • Experience working with Figma, or the ability to pick up new tools quickly
  • Experience building a design system
  • Exposure and/or experience in the creative industries, especially the music industry
  • Experience working in a small to mid-size startup company environment
  • Experience with customer driven development 
  • Experience working in Fintech or the music industry

Salary:

  • The salary range for this job is $145,000 - $174,000. This is a good faith effort at the time of posting. This range is base salary only and does not include equity, benefits, and any other compensatory components of the role.
