Product Design Lead (Berlin or remote / all genders)

We are reinventing teamwork for spreadsheets

by introducing a productivity layer on top of Excel and Google Sheets.

You will join Layer shortly before the Series A round, and your main objective will be to lead all our Design efforts. You will need to work hands-on as well as overseeing and growing the Design team. In the next 12 months we anticipate the team to grow up to 5 Product Designers.

You will oversee the design vision as well as execution and closely work with Product Managers, Engineers, Designers and our Customers to deliver a great customer experience.

You will be responsible for:

• Driving the Product design process from discovery to implementation
• Transform complex and abstract concepts and challenges into well-articulated, tangible solution ideas with a strong problem solving mindset and craft excellence
• Systematically conduct user interviews to learn more about the users’ needs
• Managing the Product Design Team
• Seeing that every team member develops both technically and personally via one-on-ones, mentoring and coaching
• Attracting, assessing & hiring world-class product talent

Your profile:
You are a seasoned Product Designer, who has led teams before and gets excited by the thought of building and scaling a Product Design team. You truly care about the success of the company, and you care equally as much about each team member as an individual, their growth and realisation of their potential.

Must-haves:

• Prior experience in Product Design & leadership experience at a high-growth startup
• Proven track record of building cloud software
• An exceptional track record of designing beautiful software for desktop and/or mobile
• 7+ years experience in a design role, preferably within the B2B/SaaS space
• Interest in spreadsheets
• Experience in learning from the user, esp. preparing, conducting and analysing user interviews
• A high degree of analytical & quantitative problem-solving skills

Bonus points:

• Experience in Finance or Fintech
