Principal UX Designer

We’re looking for a Principal UX Designer to join our dynamic and collaborative team. While this is a hands-on product design role where craft is essential, this is also a strategic design position, responsible for defining and guiding a long-term product design vision. This strategic vision will guide products and designers across multiple product areas, web and mobile, focused on the buyer experience but with meaningful seller side impact as well.

This role has significant cross-product and cross-functional impact, and will draw deeply on your collaboration and innovation skills. You’ll bring your experience with interaction design, product design, and design systems, as well as with product strategy, branding and marketing, and user research. 

You’ll often interface with senior company leadership and work in a tight partnership with senior product managers, engineering, user research, and the broader UX design team, creating innovative product design solutions for the unique challenges of our specialized marketplace. 

This is a hybrid role located in New York, NY.

What you'll do

• You’ll work to deliver product design solutions, from concept to deployment and beyond
• You will collaborate closely with senior product and engineering partners to help define product and design roadmaps
• You will define and drive alignment with multiple other designers and product teams, transparently and collaboratively, and with a generous sharing mindset
• You will proactively seek opportunities for product improvements, from strategic innovations to high-value experiments
• You will deliver detailed design specifications, working closely with engineering to actively support development and launch
• You will plan and actively participate in industry and UX research activities
• You will drive consistency of visual and interaction patterns, being a key driver of our design system and creative processes

Who you are

• You have 7+ years of experience designing at a consumer-focused tech company or in-house product design team. You have led design for major product areas and initiatives. 
• You regularly provide mentorship and leadership to other designers and design teams. You’ve created influential guidelines for design standards and processes.
• You have experience integrating qualitative and quantitative research, including AB testing, into your design decisions
• You regularly present and advocate for a clear design rationale to executive-level and cross- functional stakeholders

Nice to Have

• E-commerce experience is a plus, especially two-sided marketplaces. Experience with high-end art and design, or with luxury brands, is also a plus

A portfolio of relevant work is required for consideration, telling the story of how you worked with your teams to solve specific product design and business challenges. It should illustrate your specific contributions, how you drove the design process, and how you followed through as your solution became a live product.
