Company Description

Opportunity is not evenly distributed. Shopify puts independence within reach for anyone with a dream to start a business. Since 2006, we’ve grown to over 10,000 employees and generated over $500 billion in sales for millions of merchants in 175 countries. Every 28 seconds, an entrepreneur on Shopify makes their first sale.

This is life-defining work that directly impacts people’s lives as much as it transforms your own. This is putting the power of the few in the hands of the many, is a future with more voices rather than fewer, and is creating more choices instead of an elite option.

Moving at our pace brings a lot of change, complexity, and ambiguity—and a little bit of chaos. Shopifolk thrive on that and are comfortable being uncomfortable. That means Shopify is not the right place for everyone.

Before you apply, consider if you can:

  • Care deeply about what you do and about making commerce better for everyone
  • Excel by seeking professional and personal hypergrowth
  • Keep up with an unrelenting pace (the week, not the quarter)
  • Be resilient and resourceful in face of ambiguity and thrive on (rather than endure) change
  • Bring critical thought and opinion — and embrace differences and disagreement to get shit done and move forward
  • Work digital-first for your daily work

Job Description

The Core Optimize team is responsible for building analytical tools used by merchants like Still Life Story to understand their businesses, as well as the supporting data models and ML models that power them. This is a fast paced team, passionate about building products such as Benchmarks, that give every merchant an ability to use data to optimize their business.

As a Product Operations professional in our team, you will be responsible for building and running at-scale systems that ensure alignment, visibility, and speed in our product development processes. We operate on low process and high trust, meaning that we prioritize getting shit done efficiently and effectively. Your role will involve roadmap planning to ensure that our team is aligned and working towards our goals, as well as providing visibility into the progress of projects. You will also play a crucial role in speeding up the flow of information, decision-making, and shipping of our products.

This is not zero-sum work. Our product enables entrepreneurship to create new value for the world and unlocks unlimited personal growth for the people who build it. We thrive on change and chaos, constantly pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones. Our goal is to make Shopify a 100-year company, and that requires an unrelenting pace. As a Product Operations professional, you need to be resilient in navigating ambiguity and embracing change rather than enduring it.

If you are seeking hyper-growth, can solve complex problems, and thrive on change and a bit of chaos, then this is the right place for you. We want individuals who care deeply but also see the bigger picture. At Shopify, we believe in making commerce better for everyone, even if it means serving and supporting those we may not agree with. It's about constant learning and constant discomfort. If you're ready to join a dynamic team that values impact and growth, then we want to hear from you.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a deep understanding of how teams work and potential roadblocks, to solve bottlenecks, streamline communication, and help us focus and move faster to make merchants successful
  • Gather and analyze large amounts of information quickly and disseminate insights leading to data-informed product and GTM development
  • Structure and solve complex and ambiguous business issues
  • Partner with teams (e.g. Product, Engineering, UX, Marketing, Data Science) to cross-functionally align product planning, and drive momentum for cycle planning
  • Build and develop relationships with key stakeholders to improve efficiency, effectiveness and escalate areas of opportunities/risks to Product Leadership, all while building communication bridges between executives and hands on teams building our products
  • Build systems for frequent alignment, accountability and feedback

Qualifications

  • Experience in successfully driving complex operational and strategic initiatives for senior stakeholders
  • Experience in designing minimum viable process, think in systems while rolling up their sleeves to get things done
  • Ability to create order out of chaos by asking tough questions and communicating clearly
  • Ability to go deep on problems and communicate credibly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Project management experience with proven ability to execute large cross functional projects, proven at prioritizing effectively and getting things done in a fast-paced & growing environment
  • Be self driven, proactive and able to navigate through ambiguity and complexity
  • Prior experience working on data products or with data teams is a plus

Additional Information

At Shopify, we are committed to building and fostering an environment where our employees feel included, valued, and heard. Our belief is that a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion enables us to truly make commerce better for everyone.
