THE ROLE AND YOUR IMPACT AT TIER

Are you passionate about urban mobility and how consumers move in cities? Are you eager to define which technologies can challenge the status quo to bring better and more sustainable mobility experiences to urban dwellers? Then this is the job for you!

As Product Manager Hardware at TIER, you will be working in our cross-functional “Hardware Swarm” to deliver best-in-class hardware to our global community of over 7 million riders and more than 500 cities. Your main role is to own, develop and drive the roadmap and P&L of your hardware programs and products - by understanding, translating and optimizing for the needs of our strategic stakeholders (consumers, cities, company). This is an extremely high-impact role that will affect the day-to-day mobility of millions of people!

TIER has become much more than an e-scooter company! We have added further modalities (e.g. e-bikes), developed strategic platforms (e.g. battery), acquired other mobility companies (e.g. nextbike, SPIN) and now offer a broad and expanding portfolio of micro-mobility services. As a result, we now need to handle the roadmap for batteries, charging devices (e.g. our PowerBoxes), parking infrastructure, e-scooters, e-bikes, mechanical pedal bikes, e-mopeds, IoT platforms, and many more products.

Your main areas of responsibilities will be:

  1. Performance of hardware product(s) towards strategic stakeholders, based on a set of defined success metrics:
    • Create a reliable and delightful hardware experience for customers (e.g. CSAT)
    • Maintain a best-in-class product that fits the needs of cities (e.g. tender scores)
    • Own the product P&L and increase the financial attractiveness for the company (e.g. revenue potential & TCO)
  2. Definition of roadmap for hardware products:
    • Derive and deliver impactful and informed opportunities to improve product performance or unlock growth through new product developments (e.g. improve product line P&L)
    • Analyze opportunities and deduct priorities with business stakeholders to provide delivery teams with a clear product requirement document (PRD)
    • Own and shape the backlog, roadmap and vision of your product area based on work with our great interdisciplinary teams from various backgrounds (e.g. design, business intelligence, research, business and engineering) and market trends & dynamics
  3. Maintenance of a product catalog to help the business sell your hardware:
    • Build and maintain the content for the hardware catalog of the products you are responsible
    • Adjust content to target audience (e.g. consumers, cities)
  4. Communication and alignment with stakeholders (only for 2022, will shift to “Product Operations” by 2023)
    • Work closely with your business stakeholders of all company functions to prioritize the most impactful initiatives and explore opportunities with them
    • Bridge between business “problem space” and hardware “solution space”

YOU’LL FIT GREAT WITH THESE SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • You have work experience in product management for hardware products, with knowledge and understanding of suitable product processes.
  • You thrive in a fast changing, demanding environment and really want to make a difference.
  • You have a track record of working effectively with commercial and technical teams to successfully deploy products and improve performance over the lifecycle.
  • You can adopt a commercial mindset and have business acumen to improve profit and loss elements
  • You can define processes that help to prioritize high-value opportunities and block out “noise”.
  • You are a team player with good interpersonal skills and enjoy cross-functional collaboration to deliver results.
  • You have experience in either B2C, consumer electronics or mobility industry (optional, is a plus).

GET AN IMPRESSION OF THE TEAM

TIER believes in a cross-functional Hardware “Swarm” - consisting of three Hardware functions ‘Product Management’, ‘Hardware Engineering’ and ‘Vehicle Development’ (similar to Hardware Operations) - that jointly works together over the entire lifecycle of a product and shares responsibility. Depending on the current development phase of a product, one function assumes the leadership role. Hence, on the one hand, you will be working very closely with your hardware “delivery” counterpart, either our Hardware Engineering team (for products we “make” using our own engineering designs) or our Vehicle Development team (for products we “buy” and adapt from global markets). On the other hand, you will be working very closely with the business stakeholders as well, as you bridge the two worlds.

The ‘Hardware Product Management’ team plays a highly significant role to define ‘WHAT’ we do with regards to hardware. We are building up a nimble team of high-caliber profiles working across a wide product portfolio. We use our analytical skills combined with a pinch of curiosity and creativity and fun! This role will report directly into our Director of Product Management for Hardware, who again reports directly into our CTO; it is full-time and permanent.
