We're seeking a Founding Product Designer with the ability to creatively and inventively enhance the experiences of our customers. We're building better tools for founders by doing something new, not better. The best products are built when, instead of iterating on different ways to design a product, you start by questioning if that product is even the right one in the first place. Design at Default means going deeper than the how, and working to help shape the what and the why of the products we build.

Through simple experiences, and beautiful interfaces, we don't care for leaving delight as only a surprise to our users. Rather, we are passionate about consistently providing it to them at every moment we can, embedding it into the core of the products we ship.

Vision is important to the team. More importantly though, we believe in the power of following it rather than the paths laid out for us. This means putting our heads down when we work, and ignoring the reasons why it's "impossible" or why others have failed in the past.

The Role

What you'll do...

Design and prototype end-to-end product experiences, owning and specializing in specific areas, while contributing to the broader product
Work with other stakeholders — including leadership, engineering, and other designers — to craft a product vision, and then strategize a plan to execute it
Simplify the complex, outdated, and manual processes in startup fundraising and investing
Understand our business goals, and use product and design thinking to reach them
Advocate for an exceptional experience for our customers at every touchpoint, both in and out of the product
Leverage existing design systems, but know when to break the rules.
Talk to customers, current and future, to learn what is and isn't working.
Provide feedback to other team members, and approach your own work with an open and growth-oriented mind.

You should...

Have experience designing products for a variety of form factors across desktop and mobile
Be humble, and respectful to your fellow teammates and our customers.
Be able to communicate and present your work in a clear and concise way.
Appreciate the details in your work, and strive to get your hands dirty even in the smallest areas.
Have a strong visual taste, hold a high bar for aesthetics, and can produce work that reaches it.
Approach work with a principled and framework-based way of thinking.
Be able to balance multiple projects, move quickly, and avoid getting sloppy along the way.
Be passionate about startups, entrepreneurship.
