Role Description

About you

You’re a Visual Designer who understands design fundamentals and the impact they have across marketing, sales, and product. You are coachable and keen to learn from our design team to create imagery and small animations within the Swell brand guidelines. This role is suitable for someone with a positive attitude, looking to grow their career in design in a start-up environment that moves quickly towards tight deadlines. You remain calm under pressure and enjoy being hands-on, creative, and flexible.

You have experience designing in a digital environment, however, we welcome applications from those who have made the transition from print to digital.

What you'll do

• Creating eye-catching graphics for blogs, product announcements, and email newsletters.
• Design new components and pages for our marketing site, help center, and developer documentation.
• Produce supporting graphics and diagrams for content pieces, which sometimes require communicating highly technical concepts.
• Design promotional artwork and swag for events, conferences, and internal use.
• Create branding and product imagery for storefront/theme demos.
• Help us build our brand presence on the web, the majority of the work you create will be digital) and also seen in real life (e.g. promo items for events, posters, swag, etc)
• We’re a small team that is still developing our brand so you'll have the opportunity to help shape our visual direction while working on many kinds of projects.

What we're looking for

• You have 3+ years of experience as a graphic/visual designer working on digital and print projects.
• You're comfortable with voicing your opinions—because we want to hear them!
• You value substance over style, and can back up design choices with solid rationale.
• You're good working in a small team and help others to get things done.
• You can take technical content and present it in an understandable, visually engaging way.
• You care almost too much about typography (which is just the right amount).
• You care about subtle details that most people won't notice.
• You work well without direction, using async written communication most of the time.

Bonus points if you possess the following:

• Comfort working with HTML and CSS for emails and web pages.
• Exceptional digital design skills but you know your CMYK from your RGB, and what kind of coating needs to be applied to make that black-on-black business card work.
• Basic animation and composition skills.
• The ability to design icons.
• General enjoyment of creating eye-catching social media gifs.
