Visual Designer

We are looking for a Visual Designer to support our team’s work and support the work of people-focused teams (incl. Inclusion & Diversity, Office Experience, and more) for Block, Inc.’s quickly-growing global population of 12,000+ employees. This is a new role on our team. We are seeking someone who is motivated to create visual designs that effectively engage, connect, and inspire an employee and talent audience. 

Block is looking for a visual designer to join the Internal Brand & Employee Experience team. Reporting to the team lead, you will work with multiple teams daily to bring to life compelling narratives, programs, and experiences. As our team’s first visual designer, you’ll own the discipline on our team, working with other creatives and engineers to create an engaging digital visual experience for employees and prospective talent. Block is an art-forward brand and you will work with multiple teams to create visuals that reinforce our purpose, tell compelling narratives, and express our identity as an employer. No idea is too out there.

You will:  

• Demonstrate an expertise in typography, composition, layout, design thinking, and content strategy in the design solutions you create
• Work through complex problems to create beautiful and thoughtful designs
• Work on projects from ideation and design through implementation
• Design graphic concepts, assets, and visual treatments for various channels
• Work with partners across Block to guarantee an integrated internal brand experience
• Iterate quickly and communicate ideas across several levels of fidelity, with the ability to receive feedback constructively and provide feedback to other's work
• Juggle a mix of large and small projects, often with overlapping priority and urgency.

You have:

• 5 years of industry or freelance experience 
• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite 
• Proficiency with Figma
• A solid portfolio of visual design projects
• Experience designing for the web
• Experience working cross-functionally to launch integrated campaigns
• Familiarity with both new and traditional brand channels and media
• Familiarity with parts of the production pipeline 

Even better:

• Experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Experience with website building on a CMS (e.g. Contentful)
• Experience with creating visuals in 3D and animation (e.g. Lottie & Procreate)
• Production design skills
