UX Writer - Fully Remote

VEED.IO is an online video editing platform that makes creating videos easy and accessible to everyone. Millions of people around the world use our products to tell stories, create content, grow their audience, and more. Most of these people had no experience making videos before — this means we need to make it really simple, and the words we use play a major role in that.

We probably don’t need to tell you this, but we believe that words are an incredibly important part of the user experience. We’re always debating the metaphors we use to explain complex concepts — for instance, what are the differences between “videos”, “projects” and “clips”? And that’s where you come in — we need an authority on the use of language to help us make VEED more understandable and coherent.

You’ll be joining at a super interesting stage: 2 years ago we had no staff and no money, and now we’re the fastest-growing video editor in the world, backed by Sequoia. You will be the first UX writer on our team.

• You like using words to make complex things simple → You love creating simple experiences that anyone can use. Great UX is what sets VEED apart — there are lots of tools out there already, but they're all confusing and hard to use. We’re changing the game by making every step of the video creation process incredibly easy — this simplicity unlocks a whole new group of creators.
• You enjoy varied and challenging work → You’ll be working with multiple teams on a variety of projects, from figuring out what our tone of voice should be, to naming core concepts in VEED (like “clips”), to writing error states for expired credit cards. You can do it all, and you enjoy it all.
• You don’t mind working a little scrappy → We have tons of copy, and ship new stuff all the time — making everything 100% consistent shouldn’t be the goal. You recognize when speed is more valuable than perfection, but you understand which details need lots of love.
• You want to shape UX writing at a fast-growing company → You will make a massive impact, by shaping the role of UX writing at VEED. You’ll be our first UX Writer, but probably not the last, so it’s a great moment to join us.

What will make you successful?

We want you to be successful at VEED. If you fit these requirements, we think you will have a great time, but the most important thing is that you are passionate about what we're building! If you're excited about the opportunity, but don't fit all of the criteria, please still reach out.

• You're a generalist → We're still at an early stage of our company’s growth, so we're looking for people who are comfortable in ambiguous environments and can work on lots of different projects.
• You're a team player → We work in multi-disciplinary teams. You understand the role copy plays in creating a great product, and know how to work with the rest of the team to be successful.
• You're a learner → No week is the same here at VEED — we're all constantly learning as we go. You have to be infinitely curious and excited about figuring stuff out with us.
• You have a proven track record at a product company → You have been part of a product organization. You've worked on successful products and made them better through great copy. We're not looking for a marketing writer who can sell with words, we’re looking for a UX writer who can teach with them.
• Bonus points if you’ve worked on other creative tools before.

Interview process

Our interview process is fast, just like us ;)

• Submit your application → Resume, motivation, and maybe a lil’ portfolio — you know the drill!
• 30-min intro call → This meeting will be with our Head of Product, and we’ll talk about your background, and your ambitions. No need to prep anything!
• Call with the team → Meet your potential new teammates. We will include a product designer and a product manager in this chat. The focus will be on how you’d collaborate with the team.
• Small take-home assignment → We’ll ask you to do a short task to assess how you work. You only need to spend an hour on the assignment — afterwards, you’ll present it to the team. Our goal here is to see how you work in real life, but it’s also an opportunity for you to see what working at VEED would be like.
• Meet our CEO → A final call with Sabba (the CEO and co-founder of VEED) and someone else from the team.
