Shopify is a leading global commerce company, providing trusted tools to start, grow, market, and manage a retail business of any size. Shopify makes commerce better for everyone with a platform and services that are engineered for reliability, while delivering a better shopping experience for consumers everywhere. Job Description

Shopify has redefined commerce by raising the standard for how companies of all sizes sell their products and services. To help power millions of merchants in more than 175 different countries, Shopify is always growing and finding new ways to create more value for commerce businesses around the world.

Shopify's user experience team is focused on enabling people to make commerce better at a global scale. This team plays a special role in building understanding and empathy for our merchants. The content design team is a close-knit group of crafters who work across the company to create clear, concise content that makes our products work better.

We’re looking for a Content Design Manager who is comfortable defining goals, direction and strategy, but also comfortable getting into the weeds and working hands on with their teams. At Shopify, leaders sketch too. They thrive on change and operate on trust, leveraging the diverse perspectives of the people on their team in everything they do. We look for those who question, who are optimistic but never satisfied, and always seek to do better and make things better. We love those who always want to deeply understand why people do things and how to improve. We are looking for a leader who can plan and create interface content for Shopify products, and contribute to our team's skills and growth. This position requires a deep understanding of the role language plays in the UX design process. Our ideal candidate has a love of language and understands how growth marketing intersects with product and design.

We’re always on the lookout for people who are excited to work on hard problems at a global scale in a friendly, collaborative environment. If this resonates, we’d love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Helping the team define a strong roadmap by advocating for the needs of our users and identifying the right problems to solve

  • Empowering your team to create great products by setting a high quality bar and providing constant feedback to your team members

  • Acting as thought leader on the development of new features, and continuously improving what we have today

  • Growing your team members by offering mentorship, establishing clear expectations and connecting them to the right learning opportunities

  • Applying strategic thinking and facilitative leadership skills to conceptualize ideas and communicate them compellingly to internal stakeholders, partners and customers

  • Building positive, collaborative relationships with product design, development, marketing, and the broader UX team, as well as continuously "raising the bar" as an effective leader of positive change

  • Being an active mentor for content crafters, leading design critiques, reviews, and quarterly planning

  • Defining and implementing information architecture and navigation systems across complex products

Qualifications

  • Expert knowledge of the end to end iterative UX content design process, preferably in a product-focused environment
  • Deep experience driving and applying user-centered content design processes while working with cross-functional teams including product design, development and user research

  • Experience writing and structuring language to respond to audience needs

  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills; you have the ability to help your team and stakeholders understand the 'why' behind your design rationale

  • Demonstrated ability to create, implement, and maintain content standards across an organization

  • Empathy and advocacy for merchants and their buyers, in all areas of our work

We know that applying to a new role takes a lot of work and we truly value your time. Yohannah is looking forward to reading your application. If your CV stands for itself, that's great, but we always love to find out more about people, so feel free to include a cover letter.
