The Freemium R&D team oversees the entire user journey on Spotify and ensures we engage with people in innovative ways, every step of the way. Our team grows Spotify’s audience by finding future listeners around the world and delivering the right value to them, at the right time. We are looking for a User Researcher to join a team of User Researchers and Data Scientists working across the entire freemium funnel. All of this in service of our mission to elevate the audio experience for both creators and fans. You will be part of the multidisciplinary Freemium Insights team; a fun loving and engaging group of highly motivated people specialising in User Research and Data Science.

As part of our team, you will  support projects to drive improvements in key user journeys across free activation, premium acquisition, and retention. Additionally, you will help us to design new experiences as we look to optimise the freemium journey and launch additional products. We are looking for someone who is motivated by providing exceptional user experiences across these focus areas, working on problem spaces such as, how we might improve the onboarding journey for new users, or, how might we provide more clarity around the value offered in each of our Premium plans. 

What you'll do

  • Plan and conduct exploratory and evaluative user research across different problem spaces with our team focused on activation, conversion and retention on Spotify
  • Deliver high confidence insights that enable evidence-based decisions, shape strategies and develop hypotheses for each of our problem spaces
  • Build trusted relationships with design, product, engineering and marketing partners to drive impact from your research and build better Spotify freemium experience
  • Develop and innovate on our mixed-methods user research practice
  • Employ a wide range of storytelling techniques to communicate results and recommendations to product, design and engineering teams
  • Participate in and contribute to the broader insights community at Spotify by sharing knowledge, expertise, mentoring and improving processes

Who you are

  • You are a mixed methods researcher. An expert in at least 3 quantitative and qualitative user research methods and a variety of user research tools. It’s a plus if your skillset leans towards design-focused and/or quantitative research methods
  • You have worked in a research role at a consumer-focused or a business-to-business company
  • You are comfortable with ambiguous and unstructured questions and know how to break them down into actionable and concrete research work streams
  • You have a people-focused mentality and will passionately advocate for the Spotify listeners 
  • You have the experience of working with multidisciplinary teams including data and behavioral scientists, designers, marketers, engineers and product managers 
  • You know how to draw insights from multiple, diverse data streams and are able to synthesize quantitative and qualitative data
  • You are committed to communicating insights in a compelling manner, employing storytelling to paint a picture, build understanding and inspire 
  • You are comfortable working with distributed teams across multiple offices and timezones
  • You are able to communicate insights and ideas to senior leadership, business people, designers, engineers and other partners (in English)
