Computers are the most powerful tools to exist in the history of humanity. Today, only a relative few—professional software developers—can use this superpower to its fullest extent. This has created an unbalanced world where there are only programmers and those who consume their programs. Replit wants to change that dynamic by bringing the next billion software creators online.
We want to make programming available to anyone who wants to learn it. That's why we're looking for our first user researcher who can help us understand people's pains and gains who shares our vision of making programming easy for all of us.
As a User Researcher, you will:
Serve as the resident expert for insights and knowledge about our users (and potential ones that don't even use us yet!) and guide the team on how to effectively apply those insights to their work.
Own all aspects of UX Research ranging from identifying, planning, driving, conducting, analyzing, and reporting out insights on the state of Replit usage and programming.
Work across Product, Engineering, Data, and Design to effectively prioritize research efforts that provide the most leverage to our efforts - consider impact, goals, and scope of what is being requested.
Build out the UX Research culture, process, and documentation for what best in class UX Research should look like at Replit; Empower the team with the tools they need to succeed on their own.
You qualify if:
You have deep empathy for programmers and learners alike and are familiar with concepts around Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and Behavioral Science Principles.
You are familiar with both qualitative (user interviews, diary studies, focus groups, etc) and quantitative (surveys, a/b testing, etc) assessment methodologies; and recognize when to use either.
You have strong communication skills and can succintly communicate your insights and ideas across different functions.
You are resourceful: We're a lean, efficient startup where you won't find heavy-handed management. You need to be able to come up with your own goals and know how to balance velocity and quality.
You're excited by research that drives product insights and impact, and just for the sake of research.
Even better if:
You've worked on devtools in the past or a similar tool for learning technical concepts.
You have experience doing user research across a broad geographical user base and in markets outside of North America.
You have an understanding of accessibility guidelines, principles of effective design, and are familiar with the Jobs to be Done framework.
Note that the listed qualifications are approximations. If you're a talented individual but don't exactly fit the requirements, get in touch anyway.
