About Glean
We’re on a mission to bring people the knowledge they need to make a difference in the world.

Glean was founded by a seasoned team of former Google search and Facebook engineers, who wondered why we don’t have an easier way of finding what we need at work. In our personal lives, we have tools to help us find pretty much whatever we need. Why don’t we have that at work? And that was the beginning of Glean.

Glean searches across all your company’s apps to help you find exactly what you need and discover the things you should know. We’re a diverse team of curious and creative people who want to help each other get big things done—so we can help other teams do the same.

We're backed by some of the Valley's leading venture capitalists—including Sequoia, Kleiner Perkins, Lightspeed, and General Catalyst—and have assembled a world-class team with senior leadership experience at Google, Slack, Facebook, Dropbox, Rubrik, Uber, Intercom, Pinterest, Palantir, and others.

What’s the opportunity?

Glean is looking for an experienced Lead Researcher to collaborate with our product teams to build a world-class, once-in-a-generation-product in a creative, focused environment.

As our inaugural User Researcher, you will play a foundational role in leading strategic research projects, driving product strategy through user insights, shaping the research function at Glean, and creating programs to scale research efforts. You’ll collaborate closely with members of our product, design, and engineering teams to integrate research into roadmaps, drive impact from insights, and shape what we build.

This role is a part of our Design team, a tight-knit and collaborative group of product and brand designers. This would be an exciting opportunity for a seasoned qualitative researcher who’s interested in applying their craft on a cutting-edge product and helping to grow the team in the future.

What will I be doing?

  • Identify and prioritize strategic and tactical research questions that will have the most impact on Glean’s business and customers.
  • Lead foundational qualitative studies to identify product opportunities and shape decisions at both a strategic and tactical level from definition to post-launch evaluation, using a variety of methods such as ethnographic field research, surveys, interviews, diary studies, usability studies, and more.
  • Communicate research findings to inform business decisions through storytelling, data visualizations, presentations, workshops, reports, or whatever format gets insights into our decision making.
  • Build purposeful relationships with a wide array of partners across the company.
  • Work collaboratively as a strategic partner to Product Managers, Product Designers, Product Engineers, and Data Scientists to define long-term strategy and short-term tactics for our products by grounding decisions in user needs and insights.
  • Facilitate research democratization by mentoring and training other Gleaners like Product Managers and Product Designers to run their own research studies so you can focus on the highest impact work.

What skills do I need?

  • 4+ years of experience working as a user researcher on digital experiences, ideally 1-2 years on a smaller team or company where you have done hands-on research on an early-stage team.
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis
  • Experience managing projects involving cross-functional teams
  • Record of discovering, synthesizing, and socializing actionable insights that have influenced products
  • Ability to balance working with urgency and focus alongside methodological rigor and being able to adapt as needed for the situation
  • Ability to focus relentlessly on users and solve for their needs and wants
  • Strong written, verbal, and storytelling skills
  • A learning, self-starter, and growth mindset with an ability to navigate ambiguous projects in a fast-paced environment and own problems with a sense of curiosity and a desire to make things better.

Bonus skills and attributes

  • Experience working on a B2B SaaS product
  • Experience partnering with Data Science
  • Experience working in smaller research teams in a fast-paced environment

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation

  • Flexible work environment
