At Opendoor, research plays a key role in defining strategy as we reimagine home buying and selling and ensuring our team feels deeply connected to the needs of our customers. How can we innovate to help our customers achieve what they truly want – a seamless transition into a home that helps them achieve their vision for their life? How do we help our customers feel confident and supported as they navigate the largest, most complicated transaction of their life?

We’re looking for a Staff Researcher to help build the future of our consumer experience and lead research across one of our core businesses. You’ll have a clear, measurable impact on the business – ranging from revolutionizing the home selling experience to developing new products to help customers find and afford a home they truly love. 

Responsibilities:

  • Partner closely with Product, Design, Engineering, Data Science, and Business leaders to help the team ask the right questions, answer them with rigor, create stories that inspire, and experiences that people love
  • Conduct generative research that guides the development of new, innovative products
  • Identify ways for us to improve our experience across all of our touch-points, including digital tools, physical homes, customer service interactions, and our marketing
  • Design and execute research plans to address whatever question is at hand using surveys, concept testing, interviews, ethnography, usability testing, or a new technique that you dream up
  • Share your learnings in a way that speaks to the diverse members of our team, from executives in San Francisco to Product Marketing Managers in Salt Lake City and Home Project Managers leading renovations in Nashville
  • Evangelize for high-quality research and user-centered thinking throughout the company
  • Mentor other researchers and lead by example in delivering world-class, bar-raising work

Skills Needed:

  • Masters or PhD in Human-Computer Interaction, Sociology, Psychology, Information Science, Computer Science (or similar), or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years industry experience, post advanced degree, in a direct-to-consumer environment
  • A track record of discovering, synthesizing, and socializing actionable insights that impact company-wide goals
  • A self-driven attitude and the initiative to identify research needs, set your own roadmap, and creatively solve problems
  • Experience with qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis
  • Experience managing projects involving cross-functional teams
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills
  • Strong storytelling skills and an ability to frame insights into compelling narratives
