The Freemium R&D team oversees the entire user journey on Spotify and ensures we engage with people in innovative ways, every step of the way. Our team grows Spotify’s audience by finding future listeners around the world and delivering the right value to them, at the right time. With research, product development, product design, engineering, and marketing all collaborating in one organization, we’re able to quickly create meaningful features and services for millions of people around the world, resulting in joyful, long-lasting relationships with Spotify.

We are looking for a well-rounded Staff User Researcher with a keen eye for early stage product development and concept generation. Do you do your best work at the intersection of Business, Product, and Design? Can you spot profound insights amongst a sea of data points? Are you eager to craft the future of Spotify and how we get there? If yes, then we’d love to hear from you!

What You'll Do:

  • Develop a global Insights strategy to fuel new product ideas that will drive significant business impact within the next 1-2 years.
  • Partner with counterparts in UX Design to lead a fast-paced and high-volume rapid prototyping program.
  • Continuously find, vet, and craft big ideas to increase MAU and revenue by identifying an opportunity, sizing it, and understanding the underlying drivers, barriers, and user needs within the opportunity.
  • Curate insights from a wide range of data sources (i.e., qualitative research, surveys, syndicated data, logs data, guide interviews, trends, search and social listening, etc.) to craft useful recommendations for product development.
  • Lead vendors and internal user researchers, data scientists, and business analysts to craft data and often do hands-on research and analysis yourself.
  • Work in close collaboration with Tech, Design and Product to ensure detailed transitions from conceptualisation to later stage product development.
  • Become the “voice of the user of the future” to hundreds of colleagues by crafting interactive trend immersions, newsletters, and presentations sought at encouraging action and innovation.

Who You Are:

  • At least 8 years of experience working in an insights role, ideally with a mix of experience at a global tech/entertainment/media company and at a research/design/consulting agency.
  • At least 4 years of experience in product development; ideal candidate will have ample experience across the entire product lifecycle, not just early stages.
  • A degree in HCI, Design, Social Sciences (e.g., Psychology), Business, or similar field; Master’s degree or higher preferred.
  • Experience with research on a range of speciality audiences like Gen Z, audiophiles, and/or emerging markets.
  • Strong multidisciplinary research background with the ability to moderate qualitative research and conduct quantitative primary research.
  • Experience collaboratively crafting comprehensive pitches for new insights that include well vetted opportunity sizing, validated concepts, and engaging presentations packaging up the pitch.
  • Proven track record to impact a wide variety of sophisticated business and product challenges at once.
  • Equally analytical and creative; you can conduct rigorous research but also tell compelling stories with data.
  • Phenomenal collaborator and communicator, especially with senior and cross functional colleagues in Engineering, Product, Design, Marketing, and Finance.
  • Deeply curious with a passion for 0-1 style innovation

Where You'll Be:

  • We are a distributed workforce enabling our band members to find a work mode that is best for them!
  • Where in the world? For this role, it can be within the Americas region in which we have a work location.
  • Prefer an office to work from home instead? Not a problem! We have plenty of options for your working preferences.
