Staff Product Manager, Product Innovation 

As the Staff Product Manager on the Innovation team, you will drive the exploration, evaluation, development and testing of new product ideas across our current focus and beyond. You will partner with the Director of Product Innovation, Product Researchers, Designers and Engineers and Data Analysts to evaluate, build and scale early-stage products at Stack Overflow.  Your work will plot the course for Stack Overflow to become the most valuable destination for the world’s current and next generation of technologists. 

What you’ll do:

  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of the product innovation framework used to identify and evaluate potential ideas.
  • Be part of a small cross-functional team to review, research and analyze the most impactful ideas.
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, Engineering, Research and Community teams leveraging their knowledge and expertise and gaining their support throughout the process.
  • Use agile best practices to establish your product team within the Community Products organization.
  • Stay current with industry, product and market trends to identify potential ideas and disruptors and share with leadership based on opportunity and/or threat.
  • Build a product roadmap, maintain a backlog of projects, and manage the priorities of your product team
  • Participate in discussions and research with users, customers and partners regarding high-potential ideas.
  • Partner with product research & design to understand the core issues that our users and customers care about
  • Scope necessary and nice to have features and functionality for a potential new product and evaluate buy, build or partner opportunities with engineering teams. 
  • Work closely with various stakeholders across sales, marketing, and community to align strategy and priorities
  • Innovate on our products through workshops, research, and experiments
  • Leverage internal and external data along with qualitative research to increase confidence in the opportunity for impact within our vision and mission of the best new product ideas. 
  • Define and monitor metrics to determine the effectiveness of features, and administer split tests to measure the overall impact
  • Interact with our community of developers and customers around the world to gather ideas and feedback

What you’ll need to have:

  • 6+ years of product management.
  • Experience in Product MVP development, innovation and/or incubation initiatives including working with engineering and other cross-functional partners
  • An understanding of Stack Overflow, other Stack Exchange network sites and Stack Overflow for Teams.
  • A track record of and a desire to operate in a greenfield environment, building new teams, frameworks, and processes.  Make decisions quickly and iterate as you learn and progress.
  • Ability to leverage quantitative and qualitative analysis objectively to evaluate the benefits and risks of new product ideas that progress through the product development pipeline. 
  • Experience with usability testing, A/B tests, interviewing and other common forms of early-stage product testing and discovery. 
  • An understanding of the technical, design, and UX implications of your functional requirements.
  • Excellent spec-writing skills with a clear ability to break down complex problems into smaller, manageable pieces.
  • Strong, adaptive communication and collaboration skills, both verbal and written.

  • We’re a distributed, remote team and you’ll be part of a work culture that emphasizes online & asynchronous communication with minimal meetings and ceremonies
  • We’re generally very flexible on working hours, though we do ask everyone on the team to maintain an overlap with (at least) 10AM - 1PM US Eastern time

Salary range: $160,000pa to $219,000pa + bonus
