Spanning many disciplines, we work to make the business work; creating the frameworks, capabilities and tools needed to welcome a billion customers. Join us and help to amplify productivity, quality and innovation across Spotify.

Monospace is a horizontal Design Studio comprising 9 design teams working across the Spotify Platform Mission. We craft powerful tools and experiences that accelerate innovations and impact, safely at scale within and beyond Spotify to unlock the power of human creativity. We’re seeking a Staff Designer to help build the future of designer and developer experiences at Spotify!

In this role, you will define the end-to-end services, tools, and platforms for our internal R&D teams, and external customers. This is a hands-on practitioner role and you’ll have the opportunity to influence the direction of business-critical initiatives and customer journeys across Spotify.

A key focus area for you will be aligning business, product, design, and technology so that Spotify teams can grow their capabilities and practices, as well as develop future-forward visions and strategies. This will include Backstage - a platform that is used by R&D teams across Spotify and at organizations around the world. You’ll also directly contribute to Design Platform - the creative backbone of the world’s most innovative audio platform. Design Platform is a team of specialists who enable design delivery at scale.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the definition and delivery of service and product design projects
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, designers, researchers, and business partners to build coherent end-to-end services
  • Show the value of a multidisciplinary perspective, and build upon the expertise of our dedicated design team
  • Help define the vision for the Spotify development experience and the growth of future Backstage value propositions
  • Conduct research to inform internal tools, processes, and capabilities required to deliver on customer experiences, platform initiatives, and strategies
  • Define and visualize current and future customer experiences with relevant artifacts such as service standards, frameworks, personas, maps and blueprints, and customer experience strategies
  • Rapidly design, prototype, and test concepts for services and products based on a deep understanding of business and customer needs, channels, and technology
  • Plan and lead co-creation workshops and community events with internal and external customer teams, collaborators, distribution partners, and open-source users
  • You’ll be an advocate for and help support our Design Systems strategy and will drive it forward with an iterative approach in mind
  • Help service owners and partners identify and understand bottlenecks and make recommendations to drive improvements
  • Lead design practice rituals and develop new standards to mature the craft of the Platform design team
  • Show - don’t tell. Use the power of rendering and crafted storytelling to support product excellence, innovation and team alignment.

Who You Are

  • 7+ years of proven experience in crafting products and services - preferably within the Enterprise tech sector (Agency experience is an advantage).
  • Track record of designing functional but also beautiful experiences that users adore.
  • Multi-disciplined, equally comfortable working through complex flows, creating visually stunning interfaces, storytelling through motion, and all the spectrum of design disciplines required to support the work.
  • Data-informed - recommendations and design work are deeply rooted in experimentation and evidence.
  • Comfortable starting from ambiguity and driving clarity from complexity. Works autonomously or within a design squad.
  • Balances user and business centricity equally.
  • Outstanding communicator, storyteller, and facilitator. Brings people together and builds a shared understanding, with an inspiring vision and narrative.
  • Experience in defining strategies that support teams through product pivots - such as experience visions, scenario planning, future casting, service prototyping, or similar.
  • Enjoys mentoring others to give and ask for honest and critical feedback.
  • Builds strong relationships with cross-functional partners.
  • Develops best practices for engaging across teams within the organization.
  • Drives inclusion and equity within their wider Product Area/domain. Holds others accountable for non-inclusive behaviors and creates a psychologically safe environment.

Where You'll Be

  • Where in the world? This role will be located in the UK
  • Working hours? We operate within Central European for collaboration and ask that all be located in that time zone.
