The worldwide data management software market is massive (IDC forecasts it to be $137.6 billion by 2026!). At MongoDB we are transforming industries and empowering developers to build amazing apps that people use every day. We are the leading modern data platform and the first database provider to IPO in over 20 years. Join our team and be at the forefront of innovation and creativity.

The Insights and Telemetry (InTel) team plays a critical role in making MongoDB the best autonomous Database as a Service platform. The InTel team's primary focus is to build tools across the entire MongoDB ecosystem that enable our customers to monitor activity, diagnose problems, and optimize for peak database performance.

As modern applications are expected to be available 24/7 and outages can cost enterprises millions of dollars, the tools needed to support application availability are of paramount importance. Our team focuses on empowering users to achieve maximum value from their MongoDB deployments by providing the tools needed to monitor and optimize their database performance.

This InTel product designer role sits within the Platform Core Design team, whose mission is to help users and internal teams accomplish tasks in a secure, autonomous, and scalable manner. Our vision is to utilize strategic research, iteration, and cross-functional partnership to design, maintain, and enhance core platform-wide features. We are seeking a product designer who is passionate about solving our users' problems and committed to delivering high quality work. In this role, you will thrive by deeply understanding our user’s needs, having a healthy curiosity for the technical details, and advocating for the user experience in every step of the product development process.

This role can be based in any of our US offices or remotely in the US.

Senior Product Designer Responsibilities

  • Improve the database diagnostics experience by piecing together the end-to-end journey in our product, identifying pain points and unmet needs to help grow our product and drastically improve our users’ productivity and happiness
  • Drive the collaboration and build strong partnerships with design, research, product, engineering, and marketing teams in order to collaboratively create, align and execute your vision
  • Influence product and design direction through effective storytelling that communicates a clear UX vision to stakeholders

Hard Skills

  • Strong understanding of data visualization best practices
  • Proficient in visual design, with a deep understanding of common interaction design patterns, components, and UX best practices
  • Capable of comprehending technical concepts and taking the lead in designing large, complex initiatives with minimal supervision
  • Strategic thinker who can envision and execute design and business objectives through both short-term and long-term roadmaps
  • Utilizes qualitative and quantitative data to inform iterative design processes
  • Skilled in designing, prototyping, testing, implementing, and evaluating user experiences for products
  • Facilitates idea generation through effective collaboration with team members and brings the best concepts to life through simple and elegant design solutions

Soft Skills

  • Collaborative. Must be able to work with members from all functions and strongly advocate for expressing user needs through design
  • Demonstrates empathy for the users, teammates, and stakeholders
  • User-focused. Cares deeply about the users, their pain points and needs
  • Thrives on tackling large, loosely defined user problems and leads the team towards understanding through discovery and prioritization based on user needs
  • Can influence others to support user-centered design decisions enthusiastically
  • Possesses intellectual curiosity, constantly asking, "How can we improve?"
  • Cares deeply about the impact of their work
  • Maintains a positive and resourceful mindset, seeking ways to overcome obstacles rather than dwelling on potential blockers
  • Has a strong desire for self-improvement, as well as the growth and enhancement of others, and strives to deliver exceptional customer experiences
  • Demonstrates humility, recognizing that the best ideas for product design may often come from other team members
  • Expresses firmly held beliefs with confidence, yet remains open to change based on new evidence

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a Product Design or UX role
  • You have an exceptionally strong portfolio that shows how you tackle complex user problems, research and validate your assumptions and solutions, and showcase the impact of your work
  • You’re not afraid of getting technical: No prior developer tools experience is required, but you are excited to learn about databases, developer workflows, and database monitoring

Did you check most of the boxes, but not all? That’s fine. There is no such thing as a “perfect candidate.” MongoDB is a place where everyone can grow and does grow. Our supportive, inclusive environment is a place where you can be your best self and safely ask others to help you get there. We just ask that you are open and honest where you might need a bit of extra support.

What makes our design team great?

  • We value doing what’s best for each other, for the team, and for the customer
  • We encourage open, honest, authentic communication that’s always respectful
  • We use both primary research and user research to make sure our designs are based on facts vs. opinions
  • We believe that good ideas come from everywhere and that we are the facilitators of great design vs. the sole creators of design
  • We give each designer appropriate autonomy and ownership over their designs and encourage everyone to grow and develop their unique strengths
  • “Sign-off” is more about providing guidance and helping to fill in gaps vs. command and control, dictatorial design
  • We have a strong design feedback culture but are embedded in small teams with engineering and product managers
  • We like to have fun

Each person that joins our team adds something unique and special, changing the team for the better. If you’re passionate about technology and this Design team sounds like one you’d like to be a part of, we’d love to hear from you!

To drive the personal growth and business impact of our employees, we’re committed to developing a supportive and enriching culture for everyone. From employee affinity groups, to fertility assistance and a generous parental leave policy, we value our employees’ wellbeing and want to support them along every step of their professional and personal journeys.
