We’re starting to build our Design Systems team during the most exciting time the company has seen. Improving design is (actually) the top company priority, and in this role you will play a key part in making that happen. We don't just value Design Systems—we want you to have a real seat at the table within the design org and help build the practice. You will report to the VP of Design, and lead the definition and creation of a modern, high-quality design system to power Heap, alongside a strong team of dedicated engineers and designers.
What You’ll Do
- Lead design on our design system, which at this moment does not have a cute brand name. You could be the person who comes up with the cute brand name!
- Define and streamline our UI patterns. What should we use and when? Which new patterns might we need? Which current patterns should we send off into the sunset?
- Own our Figma library, and lead its organization (with as much help as you need from the Product Design team).
- Encourage and guide contributions to the system from designers and engineers.
- Advocate for consistency, while considering context and enablement.
- Socialize and build excitement for the design system across the company.
What we're looking for
- 5+ years in Product Design roles.
- 2+ years in Design Systems-specific roles.
- You have strong critical thinking, communication, and writing skills.
- Experience building multiple design systems and have a good idea of what you would and wouldn’t do the next time round.
- Experience with a significant visual refresh or color mode implementation.
- Experience with token architecture.
- Strong architecture mindset. You think in systems and consider their long-term usage. You can distill designs into shareable components, patterns, and behaviors.
- An expert-level understanding of using Figma in a team setting. You’re excited about all the fancy updates from the last Config.
- You’re fairly technical, have worked closely with engineers on implementation, and have a good understanding of modern CSS.
- You have experience creating accessible interfaces, and truly care about making the experience great for everyone.
- You’re detail-oriented with an excitement for your work being polished and pixel perfect. You question existing patterns and strive for :chefkiss: interactions.
