Staff Product Designer, Design Systems

As a design systems designer, you will focus on improving the components and patterns across the product. Our team of designers combines the creativity of a craftsperson with the inquisitiveness of a data scientist. You will work with cross-functional teams, including product management and engineering, to create scalable, accessible experiences as part of the Design Systems team at Databricks. You will contribute to the vision for the system, processes, and tools empowering our design and engineering teams to build high-quality, well-designed software. As part of a team of product designers responsible for design systems, you'll collaborate closely with multidisciplinary partners across research, engineering, and product management teams.

With a distinctive emphasis on designing components, systems, and tools for our design team, your efforts will directly help unlock compelling, accessible, and innovative experiences at Databricks.

The impact you will have:

• Design scalable and accessible components and patterns, shaping the product vision
• Lead best practices for how to contribute to and refine the design system
• Work with designers, elevating their skills and adhering to best practices
• Advocate for the design system across product & brand
• Craft a cohesive design language shared across design, including brand, icons, content, illustration, and animation
• Collaborate with other designers to unify designs across products
• Develop and maintain detailed user interface specifications and design pattern documentation
• Write documentation and guidance for design components, styles, and patterns
• Write documentation and guidance on how and why components, styles, and patterns are applied in code and design

What we look for:

• A portfolio showcasing 3+ years of product design experience, including 1-3 years of relevant design systems experience
• Strong interaction design and product design work 
• Experience shipping great digital products
• A diverse product design skillset that can delight a technical audience
• Experience analyzing business metrics, conduct customer conversations, and debate with the engineering team
• Use of research to understand customer goals and validate design proposals
• Experience designing in the data industry or similar fields
• A bachelor's degree or equivalent in HCI, interaction design, graphic design, computer science, or related disciplines
