Job Description

Shopify is seeking a Senior Product Marketing Manager that will be responsible for building and telling the story of what makes Shopify the ideal commerce platform and ecosystem for developers and technical merchants. They will work closely with product, product marketing, developer relations, and marketing communications teams to define segmentation, craft our strategic narrative, build messaging, launch products, and drive awareness and engagement.

The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of market research techniques, excellent storytelling skills, and proven product marketing experience, preferably with a technical product. This person will be a creative, collaborative leader who brings energy and insight to deliver high-impact marketing strategies and narratives that deliver measurable results to the business.

The Impact You Will Have

  • Conduct research on our developer audience, including needs and motivations, market trends, and competitive offerings to inform segmentation, narrative, and go to market strategy
  • Work collaboratively across product, engineering, developer relations, marketing, partnerships, and merchant-facing technical and commercial teams
  • Craft and own the cohesive developer narrative used by Marketing, Sales, and Technical teams to communicate the value of Shopify’s developer platform and ecosystem
  • Architect marketing surfaces to communicate Shopify’s developer products and tools to different audience segments based on use case, technical sophistication, and more
  • Work with marketing channel owners to bring our developer narrative to life and drive awareness and engagement with the developer community
  • Drive successful product launches from go to market planning to execution with marketing channel owners
  • Leverage a strong understanding of our developer audience, user segmentation, product roadmap, market trends, and strategy to shape our vision for the future
  • Work with international teams to understand country-specific needs, feedback, and trends to inform positioning, messaging, and go to market approach

Qualifications

  •  
  • Experience with the developer audience and ecosystem; ability to talk with developers at their level of expertise and understand their needs and motivations
  • You excel in the product marketing craft: positioning, messaging, go-to-market
  • Experience driving research, narrative development, and go-to-market strategy
  • You can synthesize complex product strategies into compelling narratives and actionable messaging for multiple audiences, and you understand how those narratives might come to life on different marketing channels (web, social, blogs, etc.)
  • Proven experience developing customer-facing messaging and content and leading successful product launches
  • Ability to create strong partnerships with product, marketing, developer relations, and commercial teams
  • Experience managing senior stakeholder relationships
  • Experience adapting product narratives and messaging to multiple regions, globally
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • You are an intellectually curious self-starter who is not afraid to ask questions and use answers to bring clarity and direction to your greater team
  • Ability to thrive in chaos and make decisions quickly 
  • You have 6+ years of experience in product marketing, marketing, or product management in technology companies

It would be a bonus if you have

  • Previous experience with commerce platforms and ecosystems
  • Previous experience in a B2B, product-led SaaS organization
