Company Description

REMOTE OPPORTUNITY, CAN BE LOCATED ANYWHERE IN NORTH AMERICA

About Shopify

Opportunity is not evenly distributed. Shopify puts independence within reach for anyone with a dream to start a business. Since 2006, we’ve grown to over 10,000 employees and generated over $500 billion in sales for millions of merchants in 175 countries. Every 28 seconds, an entrepreneur on Shopify makes their first sale.

This is life-defining work that directly impacts people’s lives as much as it transforms your own. This is putting the power of the few in the hands of the many, is a future with more voices rather than fewer, and is creating more choices instead of an elite option.

About you
Moving at our pace brings a lot of change, complexity, and ambiguity—and a little bit of chaos. Shopifolk thrive on that and are comfortable being uncomfortable. That means Shopify is not the right place for everyone.

Consider if you can:

  • Care deeply about what you do and about making commerce better for everyone
  • Excel by seeking professional and personal hypergrowth
  • Be resilient and resourceful in face of ambiguity and thrive on (rather than endure) change
  • Bring critical thought and opinion — and embrace differences and disagreement to get shit done and move forward

Job Description

The Orders team is part of our Core Deliver team. Deliver focuses on the jobs our merchants do on a daily basis: managing inventory, processing orders, getting products to customers, and managing returns/exchanges. We’re the heart of the Shopify experience for merchants and a rich ecosystem of developer partners.

On Orders, we seek to allow merchants to centralize and manage their orders across their entire business. We build the data objects, APIs, extensibility layers, and user experiences to make that happen. As one of the most central teams within Shopify, we see the gamut of new and impactful initiatives that bring value to our merchants and developer partners, ranging from the latest Checkout innovation to enabling complex fulfillment workflows.

We are looking for a Sr. Product Manager to research, ideate, shape, and launch impactful products for Orders that will improve the back office capabilities for merchants of all sizes—from entrepreneurs just getting started to multi-billion dollar enterprises.

As a Product Manager, you'll be at the heart of building something extraordinary - a product that fuels entrepreneurship, creates new value for the world, and facilitates personal growth. This is not a zero-sum game. You'll be leading the charge in a dynamic, fast-paced environment where shipping quickly and learning on the fly is the name of the game. We work on low process and high trust, so you need to be someone who can deliver impact and isn't afraid to get shit done.

This role isn't for everyone. It's not for those who prefer a prescriptive corporate structure or an in-person office environment. It's for those who thrive on change, can navigate through complex problems, and are comfortable with a bit of chaos. You'll need to be an independent thinker who is committed to developing your craft and pushing yourself out of your comfort zone.

What you will do:

  • Define and guide the roadmap and long term product strategy for a set of products within Orders.
  • Collaborate with developers, designers, data scientists, and marketers. You will be a team player, coach, and referee all-in-one.
  • Solve ambiguous, interconnected problems.
  • Be a technically-oriented PM that can dive into the technical details relevant to the product and also provide product design/UX sense.
  • Help build world-class API and UX experiences for entrepreneurs of all sizes.
  • Speak with merchants and partners frequently to translate their underlying needs into product plans.
  • Communicate with stakeholders from multiple disciplines.

Qualifications

  • 4-6 years experience in product management for software products.
  • Experience defining the roadmap and strategy for a large and ambiguous product area.
  • Track record of being able to identify new opportunities and implications for multiple teams.
  • Ability to work with a cross-functional team of developers, designers, data scientists, and marketers to launch impactful software products.
  • Strong verbal and written skills. Can communicate effectively in an asynchronous environment.
  • Sound technical knowledge. Familiarity with modern web development concepts.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset - you must be comfortable rolling up your sleeves, thriving in ambiguity, and getting the work done.
  • Ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships inside and outside your team.

Additional Information

At Shopify, we are committed to building and fostering an environment where our employees feel included, valued, and heard. Our belief is that a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion enables us to truly make commerce better for everyone. We strongly encourage applications from Indigenous people, racialized people, people with disabilities, people from gender and sexually diverse communities and/or people with intersectional identities.
