About us:

Based in New York but fully distributed, Shortcut builds project management software for software and product teams that people actually want to use—just ask an engineer how they feel about Jira. Thousands of the fastest-growing software companies use Shortcut to plan and build software, including Glossier, Venmo, Daitaku, Scale AI, FullStory, LaunchDarkly, and others.

The role:

As a Senior UX Researcher, you’ll work closely with the Design, Product and CX teams through all stages of the product development lifecycle. You’ll guide the 1–2 teams you work with through both generative and evaluative research—to identify opportunities + to assess where there’s room for improvement. We started Shortcut to improve the working lives of software teams around the world: you’ll help us take risks, experiment, and evolve both the product and the company.

Our ideal candidate displays competency in the following categories:

Influence: Easily navigates working across 1–2 teams; helps to inform team(s) focus given research insight
Domain knowledge: Expert in team(s) focus areas: product, context, and relevant dependencies
Depth: Proficient at identifying and working to resolve all insight needs as related to 1–2 teams
Autonomous: Can gather sufficient context to work productively with 1–2 teams to synthesize insight with little to no assistance from more senior researchers
Collaboration: Designs qualitative and/or quantitative research studies that are consistently aligned with + further team goals
Foundations: Begins to employ frameworks in research deliverables; proactively identifies and builds upon existing insight
Expertise: Proven expertise in one or more advanced qualitative or quantitative methods (e.g., concept testing, journey mapping, conjoint analysis)

What you'll do:

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to guide product development and refinement, given the insight you surface.
  • Independently define project scope and apply appropriate methodologies to manage stakeholder needs across a portfolio of 1–3 projects at any given time.
  • Evaluate new ideas, design concepts and existing features using a variety of quantitative and qualitative methods.
  • Craft and communicate actionable recommendations that impact key metrics (e.g., adoption, retention, feature engagement) based on research findings.
  • Help grow our research practice by educating stakeholders about proven research methods.

You should have:

  • 3+ years working as a UX Researcher.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Experience leading research at different parts of the product development process, from discovery to delivery.
  • Working knowledge of research best practices and tooling.

Extra credit (nice to have):

  • Experience with data analysis + experiment design.
  • Facilitation experience (e.g., to workshop research findings with stakeholders).

Even if you don't meet all of the requirements listed, we still encourage you to apply. Job requirements are a wishlist, not a checklist, and we're happy to help the right candidate grow into this role - if you're excited about Shortcut, we're excited about you!

What we offer:

  • Compensation: A competitive salary in addition to meaningful equity in the company - you should be able to take ownership of what you’re helping to build.
  • Benefits: Health, Dental, and Vision insurance, FSA, OneMedical, Teladoc, Health Advocate, 401(k), commuter benefits
  • Work-life balance: A flexible open vacation policy, in addition to 10 company holidays, 5 sick days, and 3 “Dot Days” (our term for bonus days off), community (volunteer) PTO, 12 weeks of fully paid parental leave. We also observe 40 hour work weeks without the expectation of after-hours or weekend work.
  • Learning and development: A $2,000 annual stipend to use toward conferences, educational courses, books, membership fees and more
  • WFH: We are a fully remote company, and we provide all the equipment you need to work from home in addition to an annual WFH stipend.

Target base salary for this role based on experience: $143,000-$190,000 annually + target equity + benefits (including medical, dental, vision and 401(k))
