Who we are

A piece of the moon, a complete dinosaur skeleton, the Pope's hat, the world's smallest book - at Catawiki, we come across exceptional objects such as these every day.

Catawiki is the leading online marketplace to buy and sell special objects. We offer over 75,000 special objects in auction every week — each reviewed and selected by one of Catawiki’s hundreds of in-house experts specialised in Art, Design, Jewellery, Fashion, Classic Cars, Collectables and many more.

We've sold 10 million unique items to date and it’s our mission to become the world’s most popular auction destination for special objects.

We’re an innovative, pioneering and fast-growing scale-up. If you think you can make a difference to our team, go ahead and apply.

Meet Sander, our Vice President of User Experience

“I joined Catawiki in 2019, as I was fascinated by the incredibly diverse range of special objects on offer. On a daily basis, we work with millions of buyers, thousands of sellers and hundreds of experts – across a wide range of categories. In other words: no two days are the same. To solve our interesting challenges, we’ve gathered a world-class team – quite literally. Our researchers, designers and writers come from five different continents. In collaboration with product managers, engineers, data scientists and others, we strive to create the best possible user experience that delight our customers every step of the way.”

How you'll make an impact

At Catawiki, we know our customer's experience is built by the entire journey; from initial brand perception all the way through to selling & buying, paying & shipping, and service & support. As a Senior UX Designer, you will work on delighting our users and making this experience as unique and memorable as the objects themselves.

In this role, you’ll work on one of the key elements of our value proposition, such as ‘delightful discovery’, ‘curation by in-house experts’, or ‘smooth and easy shipping’, to name just a few. You’ll be working in an ambitious, forward-thinking company where you'll work closely together with the other UX Designers and Writers, Product Managers, Developers, and Data Scientists,

You’ll be comfortable taking ownership of big design challenges, going through the full double diamond, as an Engineering, Product, Design & Data (EPD) team. You’ll champion the needs of our users, and connect these with business and technology in order to deliver validated, viable designs that solve real user needs.

What you'll do

  • Drive research efforts to identify user needs, help uncover the key opportunities and align these with business goals
  • Transform ideas for innovation and improvements based on user research, data analysis, and competitive reviews into viable and creative solutions
  • Work hands-on to create design deliverables such as user journeys and service blueprints, interaction models, design system elements, and prototypes that demonstrate desired outcomes.
  • Align with multiple stakeholders, incorporating feedback early and often and encouraging a user-centred focus.
  • Collaborate closely with the UX team to review designs & copy proposals,  contributing to a consistent and coherent platform.
  • Facilitate and/or participate in concept workshops, topic presentations, design sprints and other creative sessions

Who you are

  • A strong conceptual thinker, passionate about always putting user needs first
  • 5-7 years of relevant working experience
  • An outstanding portfolio demonstrating a variety of high-quality work
  • A Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in product design, industrial design, interaction design, or equivalent experience
  • Solid understanding of the user-centred design process and research method
  • Fluent in design tools (e.g. Figma), bonus points for fluency in prototyping tools
  • Familiarity with design sprints, scrum/agile and Lean UX is a plus

Where you’ll be

This role is based in Amsterdam. We also offer an excellent relocation package for people living outside the Netherlands.

  • Regular fun activities both on and offline e.g summer parties, boat rides and regular team events.

Catawiki’s eclectic team represents an international and intergenerational mix of people from different professional and cultural backgrounds. We foster an inclusive and queer-friendly work environment, committed to making every Catawikian feel welcomed and empowered. Whatever your story, we encourage you to bring your unique perspective to the table.

Catawiki stands with Ukraine and encourages people displaced by the current conflict to apply. In addition to the several initiatives we’ve launched, we’re open to ideas on ways we can continue to support the humanitarian effort.

Our offices and new way of working

We’ve embraced an activity-based way of working, meaning our team can choose how they split their work week between home and the office, in line with our remote framework and guidelines. In locations where we have physical offices, most employees enjoy two days at the office to connect and collaborate with each other.

Our experts and sales staff in local markets work 100% remotely – in most cases from home. Some key positions are hired remotely, while we also offer relocation services for colleagues needing to be closer to the office.
