Senior User Researcher - POS

Our global design team has deep expertise in User Experience Research, Product Design and Brand Design. We are building additional capabilities in areas including industrial design, motion design, data visualisation, UX writing, UI systems and design operations. Our products are used by millions of independent small business owners (such as cafes, shops, bars, hair salons) around the world, and help them start, run, and grow their businesses. 

We are seeking a seasoned Senior UX Researcher to partner with our POS Lite & POS Pro teams, and lead research that spans across both products. POS Lite is our free point of sale in the merchant app for nano-to small merchants. POS Pro is our professional hospitality point of sale for small to large merchants.

As a senior practitioner in your field you will leverage your unbiased expertise to synthesise quantitative & qualitative insights to guide design and product decisions. You will work closely with the design & product leads to define a research plan to gather insights that ensure our focus remains on our end user, and to mitigate risk. You will both execute on the research plan and empower team members to conduct research to get closer to our merchants.

Specific tasks will include:

• Proactively identify & balance research needs for both POS Lite and POS Pro by identifying research opportunities, prioritising them, and defining a roadmap that you can execute on, while enabling team members to execute simple research activities
• Conduct primary research with our merchants to understand the needs, motivations, gains and pains when using our products
• Map the merchant journey, in some cases including interactions with their customers, as well as pain points and needs as they relate to SumUp products and services - focusing specifically on point of sale
• Employ a range of research methods and tools to engage with end users in the office, on the road or remotely
• Synthesise the outputs into actionable insights used by the squads to inform the direction and roadmap of the product
• Contribute to the knowledge base around merchant insights and lifecycle
• Collaborate with other researchers, designers and product managers to deepen our shared understanding of merchants from SumUp’s 31 markets across Europe and the Americas
• Represent our merchants through workshops, presentations, and reports 
• Support team members with conducting their own usability tests & merchant interviews

Your Profile

• You have 6+ years of user research experience
• You have strong experience with fundamental qualitative and quantitative user research practices, and knowledge of when to employ them most effectively, understanding strengths and weaknesses of different research methods
• You have excellent analysis skills and turning them into actionable insights
• You have experience with the whole product lifecycle — from early stage to launch and beyond, and have knowledge of UX standards
• You have strong oral and written communication skills in English and ideally one other language relevant to our global reach
• You have excellent stakeholder management skills and can easily manoeuvre complex or ambiguous spaces to help prioritise and inform on research methodologies & best practices. 
• You have experience writing briefs and coordinating with external agencies or contractors.
• Experience evaluating and testing digital and physical products is a plus
