Coda combines documents, spreadsheets, and applications into one flexible surface—and this role will help steer the evolution of that surface to better meet the needs of individuals, teams, and organizations.

You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams—Product, Design, Data Science, and Marketing—to identify critical business questions, apply rigorous methodological approaches, and synthesize insights that inform strategic decisions. Using various techniques, you’ll uncover actionable insights about current and potential Grammarly users. You will also foster a culture of human-centered, data-driven decision-making, helping to guide our evolution as a leader in AI-assisted communication.

In this role, you will:

  • Work cross-functionally with data science, product management, product marketing, design, and engineering to identify research topics.
  • Design and execute end-to-end custom primary research using a wide variety of methods.
  • Lead exploratory and evaluative research to inform product simplification, scalability, and extensibility strategies across the Coda platform.
  • Use research to lead vision and strategy discussions by analyzing, consolidating, or synthesizing what is known about user, product, service, or business needs.
  • Act as a thought leader in the research domain, while advocating for the current or potential customers.
  • Understand Grammarly’s strategic business goals and user needs to actively contribute toward building a cohesive roadmap with your team.
  • Partner with data science and our quantitative researcher to define and monitor key experience metrics, such as new feature adoption and user engagement with AI-enhanced workflows.
  • Work quickly and communicate effectively with a fast-paced team focused on speed, rigor, and quality.
  • Generate insights that both fuel ideation and evaluate potential solutions.
  • Display the ability to work independently and autonomously.

Qualifications

  • Has a bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of relevant experience in user experience, applied research,  and product research and development, Master’s degree with 2+ years relevant experience, or a PhD with 1+ years of relevant experience.
  • Has experience designing, moderating, and analyzing qualitative research.
  • Has experience designing, launching, and analyzing rapid quantitative research.
  • Has experience translating research findings into strategic narratives.
  • Has experience understanding product experimentation results.
  • Has experience mentoring and fostering a culture of growth and development within a research team.
  • Has excellent communication skills, effectively articulating the rationale behind research direction and confidently presenting to diverse groups of stakeholders.
  • Embodies our EAGER values—is ethical, adaptable, gritty, empathetic, and remarkable.
  • Is inspired by our MOVE principles: move fast and learn faster; obsess about creating customer value; value impact over activity; and embrace healthy disagreement rooted in trust.
