Job Description

Product Operations is a force multiplier for Product Management teams at Shopify. We create the Product Management systems, processes, tools and feedback loops to enablethousands of people to stay focused on execution and moving as fast as possible so Shopify combines the impact of giants with the speed of a startup

The Senior Product Operations Manager is a strategic role that influences Leads and Senior Leads to ensure we have effective systems, tools and processes in place to make the best product decisions.

You’d be doing things like:

  • Understanding the craft of Product Management to gain insights into what they need to make the best possible decisions about what we should build to make merchants successful.

  • Building processes and tools for Product Management activities such as: roadmap creation, prioritization, and backlog management.

  • Advising Product Managers on prioritization, backlog management, and roadmap creation.

  • Influencing teams to adopt good product management practices.

  • Ensuring systems, tools, and frameworks are fit for purpose.

  • Educating team members on the use of product management systems so they understand their role and how to participate effectively in the product management process.

  • Assessing the value of our processes, ensuring they are achieving the intended results, and improving them as necessary.

  • Building a culture of transparency, where we share issues openly and celebrate successes together.

  • Mentoring/coaching Product Operations Managers and Product Managers.

  • Interviewing Product Operations Manager candidates.


  • 10+ years experience in the software development industry, with 7+ years in a Product Management/Product Operations/Software Process Group role

  • Proven experience building effective systems for product delivery.

  • The ability to influence team members at all levels to adopt new practices.

  • Skills in aligning a diverse group of team members on outcomes.

  • An understanding of when to be detail oriented and when to focus on the big picture.

  • Excellent communication skills

  • A mindset that allows them to be comfortable with ambiguity and to drive the clarity needed to move forward.

Candidates must be willing to adopt Eastern time zone work hours.
