Senior Product Manager, Threat Mitigation

What’s the role?

We are looking for a product management professional to address unique security challenges that Etsy faces as a marketplace! Using your expertise to co-create solutions with the engineering team, and cultivating relationships with a variety of partners – all of which will allow you to have immediate impact!

As the Senior Product Manager you will be responsible for collaborating with Trust & Safety, Risk Engineering, Security, and other product teams. Prioritizing the teams work by measuring impact to key performance metrics and level of effort. Building a living roadmap together that drives towards strategic goals. This is a full-time position reporting to the Group Product Manager of Risk. For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States who are either remote, flex, or office-based. What’s this team like at Etsy?

• The Risk Initiative works to protect the Etsy marketplace at scale.
• We work closely with a number of partners, including our internal customers (Trust & Safety), Legal, Finance, Design, Analytics and others.
• A main focus for this team in 2022 is improving account security and preventing/detecting account takeover.

What does the day-to-day look like?

• Collaborate with T&S and Etsy Product counterparts to understand and set risk business goals. Internal customer management and clear communication are essential.
• Work with the Risk Engineering team to define the product strategy and roadmap of our product capabilities for risk management in the threat mitigation and account security space.
• Partner with a team of product designers and engineers in order to build and iterate on key features.
• Facilitate the development of high-impact automated controls (including machine learning models) and capabilities to proactively identify vulnerabilities, mitigate emerging threats, and ensure Etsy’s member accounts are protected against bad actors.
• Lead a fully stocked and prioritized product backlog by collecting, refining, and curating ideas from cross-functional partners.
• Be responsible for crafting the vision, roadmap and prioritization of features, through continuous iteration and experimentation of a new product.
• Collaborate with engineering to deliver products that are scalable and reliable. Have fun creatively leading agile ceremonies for a team where product delivery contends with incidents. You are able to maintain momentum, interest, and productive outcomes.
• Own and define/refine the metrics of your team’s products, including impact to our business and our customers.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• 4+ years combined product management and cybersecurity and/or fraud experience. In particular, account security/account takeover experience is helpful.
• Curiosity about the particular types of fraud that exist on Etsy, and readiness to learn about the elaborate and complex control systems in place.
• Experience leading conceptualizing, planning, prioritizing, and reflection exercises with engineering teams. Taking the results of these workshops to develop workstreams and new project concepts.
• You can take a threat vector example and extrapolate a larger threat trend- always seeking the most impactful remediation with the least business impact.
• Experienced at defining product strategies and crafting technical products from inception to launch.
• Proficient analytical abilities and data literacy, including SQL (Big Query a plus) literacy. Able to interpret results from data reporting tools to generate insights and support decisions.
• Strong communication to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership and executives.
• Skilled at driving efficient decision making in large cross-functional teams that include Ops, Engineering, Design, Analytics, and Research partners.
