The Senior Product Manager on our Foundation team will drive a number of critical initiatives when it comes to quality, stability, performance, and a host of other critical backend services at the company. In particular, there will be an outsized effort to ensure that our Video Player and Media Offerings are best in class from a quality of experience perspective. This will include setting strategic vision for the team, defining how we will best measure success with our users, planning & executing longer term roadmaps with the Foundation team, and working cross functionally with other pertinent internal teams advocating for them to be customers of this team’s services. This is a unique role that must balance the needs of internal developers (critical long term engineering milestones & accomplishments) with those of our end users (stability, performance, consistency).

What You'll Do

  • Define a vision and strategy to set the media products for success over the next 2 years
  • Driving workstreams for improving all underlying services that ensure high quality of experience in our media player including performance, time to interact, stability, and a consistent experience across all Reddit clients
  • Carrying out a massive cross-functional initiative to improve the state of our Image and Video services, building a robust media platform across multiple teams outside the org.
  • Working with the engineering teams to improve general performance, latency, and availability for all of our tier 1 services
  • Collaborating with engineering to shepherd in resilience, consistency, and stability for all our media content
  • Bringing video encoding in house as a core engineering competency
  • Partnering closely with Data Science on ensuring data integrity, Client Engineering prerequisites such as predictive caching & scrolling patterns, and Backend Engineering on initiatives such as video buffering strategies & CDN improvements for our international users

Who You Might Be

  • 4+ years experience working as a product manager
  • The organizational skills required to manage a pipeline of inbound requests from multiple stakeholders
  • Engage with cross-functional partners to promote, get a buy-in, and explore the highest impact opportunities for our core content serving platforms.
  • The technical knowledge and experience to work on technical features with specialized engineering teams
  • Experience defining metrics and making product and strategic decisions based on A/B testing and/or qualitative feedback
  • The ability to assess the impact of a feature not only on end users but also the platform it’s being built for
  • Exceptional independent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, flexibility, and diplomacy
  • A passion for Reddit and how we can make it better
