Senior Product Manager, Machine Learning Infrastructure

We are looking for an experienced Product Manager with an engineering background to create the connective tissue for Etsy’s ML ecosystem. This position is a new role in the Platform Product org working with the growing Machine Learning org.

At Etsy, ML is integral to our buyer and seller facing experiences and internal operations. ML at Etsy has grown rapidly the past few years, yet we have just glimpsed the full impact it can have on our business. The ML Experience team will streamline, simplify, and scale the adoption of our systems. Success will mean creating new and adding to Etsy’s existing ML services enabling product teams to accelerate the impact that ML has on the Etsy marketplace.

This Senior PM will understand Etsy’s current ML systems, continuously improve ML practitioners’ evolving workflows, and amass relevant industry innovations. With this knowledge they’ll develop an ecosystem that empowers Etsians to quickly turn ML-based hypotheses into impactful product solutions. This is a full time position reporting to the Group Product Manager for MIPS. We are considering remote candidates based in the United States for this position. Etsy offers three different work modes to meet the variety of needs and preferences of our team: Flex mode for those who are comfortable traveling to an office location 6 times per month, Remote mode, and Office-based mode. In this role you will:

• Determine the path forward for creating an integrated ML Ecosystem at Etsy, and build the product that achieves this vision
• Establish methods and metrics for measuring the success of the ecosystem, and communicate those metrics with senior leadership
• Listen to data scientists and ML engineers across Etsy to understand their needs, and collaborate with engineering and design counterparts to translate these requirements into an intuitive user experience
• Create structure and clear priorities in this large, complex space of opportunity by identifying on incremental tracks of work that focus execution and continuously deliver new value to users, while progressing towards the long term vision and managing risk

Ideally you'll bring:

• Experience as a Platform Product Manager working in a data or technology-heavy role, including crafting vision and strategy for platforms
• A growth mindset - everyone contributing their best together to get the best possible results - no “I” in team
• A track record building machine learning systems or platforms, with a deep understanding of the role ML has in a product and an organization
• The ability to understand the needs of internal ML users AND their customers (Etsy buyers and sellers), to spot common trends and shared needs
• Experience participating in very technical conversations. The confidence to challenge ML engineers and data science peers to ensure technical decisions meet customer expectations
• Adept communication strategies for generating enthusiasm, managing timelines & risks, evaluating trade-offs, and sharing success with senior leaders
• Bonus: hands-on experience building ML models or systems in a production environment
• A trust in and commitment to Etsy’s vision, mission and values.
