Job Description

What’s the role?

We are looking for a Senior Product Manager for Etsy’s Design System team.

As the product manager, you will lead a passionate team of Designers and Engineers in collaboration with Product, Brand, Analytics, Research and other partners to craft our growing landscape of systems and shape the future of the Etsy experience. Your work will have a multiplier effect as your products are used by all of Etsy’s product teams, and touch every piece of the customer journey. You will be responsible for steering the roadmap of our design system as we focus on scaling our impact.

Do you find joy enabling other teams to do their best work? If so, this could be the perfect match.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Product Lead, User Experience Foundation. For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States who are either remote, flex, or office-based. Etsy offers different work modes to meet the variety of needs and preferences of our team. Learn more about our flexible work options and vaccination policy here.

What’s this team like at Etsy?

Our Design System provides the UX foundation for Etsy experiences spanning both the Buyer and Seller sides of our marketplace on Native Apps and Web. We enable product teams to build customer-centric experiences that Keep Commerce Human, using shared design and code libraries with brand-aligned components and patterns.

The team’s responsibilities range from building components, patterns and tools, crafting documentation, coaching teams on how to use the system, and empowering users to create experiences that are accessible to all of Etsy’s customers. Our core customers include internal Designers and Engineers, with whom we collaborate to build better experiences for our shared external customers, Etsy's Buyers and Sellers.

What does the day-to-day look like?

  • Lead the squad in developing and refining the design system components, guidance and tools that designers and engineers use to build the Etsy experience.
  • Prioritize a roadmap that balances the breadth of needs across users (Designers, Engineers), platforms (Web, iOS, Android, Flutter), and experiences (Buyer, Seller, Internal Tools) while keeping our work grounded in the strategic priorities of the business.
  • Partner with Design and Engineering leads to define and measure progress on quarterly OKRs and run day-to-day team operations in an agile environment.
  • Dive deep to scope projects and document plans, outlining clear objectives for the team to tackle and writing tickets as needed.
  • Socialize Design Systems work throughout the Product Org, driving adoption and finding opportunities for collaboration.
  • Develop tools and processes that will allow our team and our system to scale our impact.
  • Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.

Qualifications

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

  • Experienced Product Manager with a passion for Design Systems and creating impactful product experiences for both internal and external customers.
  • You understand how Design Systems are built and used strategically within an organization.
  • You champion accessibility as a core requirement and value prop of a Design System.
  • You have experience solving amorphous problems, listening to and organizing large amounts of information into a coherent plan forward, and handling difficult prioritizations with imperfect data.
  • Communication is your superpower! You are able to explain sophisticated concepts to a technical and non-technical audience.
  • You have deep appreciation for your customers and partners and can get people to a place of understanding, even if they don’t necessarily agree.
