The worldwide data management software market is massive (IDC forecasts it to be $138 billion by 2026!). At MongoDB we are transforming industries and empowering developers to build amazing apps that people use every day. We are the leading modern data platform and the first database provider to IPO in over 20 years. Join our team and be at the forefront of innovation and creativity.

The role

Developers love the flexibility of MongoDB's document model and schema, especially when it allows them to quickly adjust to changing requirements. While this flexibility and knowledge of best practices remain critical, we know that we can do more to make developers' lives even easier.

That’s where you come in! We are looking for a Senior Product Manager with a healthy obsession for developer experience and empowerment. You’ll own the roadmap for creating best-in-class tools and services for data modeling and schema management in MongoDB. This is a high-visibility greenfield effort where you’ll be working alongside the PM Lead to explore and develop solutions that make picking the right data model just as easy as changing it as needs evolve.

About the team

We are a highly collaborative team of Product Managers, Engineers, Designers, and Product Marketers all working together to make the experience of working with data easy and enjoyable for developers.

We are a distributed team; stretching from our offices in Berlin and NYC to other locations in  Europe and the US. Every now and then, we all meet at one of our offices for project kickoffs, workshops, and other team events.

This role can be based out of our NYC office or remotely in the Eastern time zone.

Role Responsibilities

  • Explore the problem space, interact with stakeholders, formulate the vision, and own the roadmap while keeping it aligned with the company’s strategic priorities
  • Lead the team to innovative and insightful product decisions via deep engagement with customers, field teams, internal stakeholders, and partners
  • Work with the Engineering team to define and prioritize projects including customer requests, tech debt, and specific initiatives
  • Drive collaboration across Engineering, Design, Marketing, Sales, and Executive leadership as the subject-matter expert
  • Actively maintain a view of how the market, competition, and technologies evolve, and factor competitive information and customer feedback into our product direction
  • Communicate complex concepts in a manner that is easily understood by multiple audiences
  • End-to-end ownership of your product area: contribute to documentation, blog posts, demos, and marketing materials for new features, all while looking at data to make sure we are meeting our success metrics

Requirements

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, enabling you to collaborate with people from different parts of the company
  • Strong customer empathy: you need to understand the pain points our customers are facing and work with your team and customer-facing stakeholders to translate them into actionable solutions
  • Technically strong: you understand how software is built, packaged, deployed, and operated — our users are developers, analysts, DBAs, etc
  • The ability to communicate technical content to diverse non-technical audiences
  • The desire to understand the database and software development markets
  • Experience leading the full product development process: ideation, research, creation, design, execution, quality testing, etc.
  • B.Sc. in a Computer Science preferred or equivalent work experience

Nice to have

  • You enjoy digging through data to understand if you are going in the right direction and discover new opportunities
  • You have experience with databases, data modeling, and data migrations
  • You have some software engineering experience and you like staying up-to-date with the development market trends
