The Team
This Senior Product Designer will be embedded in Factory Force, the Wellington-based pod responsible for the Sales Tax Platform.
This will be the first designer to be embedded within this pod, resolving platform design challenges previously faced by designers from our regional tax teams. This is a real opportunity for an individual to 'own' it.This designer will be based in Wellington where their pod colleagues are located. They’ll also benefit from working alongside the sizable design team based in Wellington.
What does that look like day to day?
This designer will be responsible for delivering global tax solutions within Xero’s new Sales Tax Platform. Close collaboration with regional designers is essential with clear communication and transparency a key factor in achieving success. As the Senior Product Designer within Factory Force you’ll be partnering with product and engineering peers on large scale initiatives.
The initial priority for this programme of work is the migration of existing regional solutions on to the global platform. Regional designers will look to the platform designer to provide guidance on UI/UX migration decisions while identifying gaps and new opportunities in the platform’s feature set. They’ll champion consistent, quality user experiences that scale across our tax products globally.
The ultimate objective is to design and maintain a world class tax platform that avoids duplication of work and frees up tax teams to focus on innovation and additional customer value propositions.

What we need from you:

  • You’re an experienced designer, accustomed to user-centered design methods and best practices
  • Ideally product (Software as a service) design experience but we’ll still consider you if you have really strong design experience elsewhere.
  • Strong problem definition and articulation – challenging assumptions and 'pre-set' thinking around solutions, agreeing the purpose, principles and vision
  • You're a natural when it comes to collaborating with cross functional teams to ensure proposed solutions balance user needs, business strategy and technical constraints
  • Proven experience in creating effective handover materials which clearly communicate how the design should look and behave throughout interaction flows and journeys (e.g. User flow diagrams, design specifications, experience/interaction specifications etc)
