Senior Product Designer, Platforms

What’s the role?

As a Senior Product Designer on our Data Enablement team, you’ll help strengthen Etsy’s foundation to enable the growth of our marketplace. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional partners to empower our internal product teams to scale easily and learn quickly. 

Partnering with a team of platform designers, you’ll work on the complete experience from mapping out internal user workflows for machine learning and data science and facilitating learning and decision making for team leads, to crafting user interfaces, UX patterns and guidelines to scale design’s impact on our platforms. We’re looking for you to apply your skills and deep knowledge of the product design process to each project, driving the design strategy that will ultimately result in tooling that becomes the industry standard, inspiring innovation, minimizing waste and enabling inclusive product development.

This role is a full-time position reporting to a Senior Product Design Manager. Etsy offers three different work modes to meet the variety of needs and preferences of our team: Flex mode for candidates who are comfortable traveling to an office location 2+ times per week, Remote mode, and Office-based mode. What’s product design like at Etsy?

Typically, product designers at Etsy work in a squad with a product manager, 3-5 engineers, researcher and analyst. Together they drive their own part of Etsy, deliver solutions to challenging problems and get feedback directly from customers. 

Day to day, it looks like: 

• Discovering insights, opportunities, and requirements

• Testing prototypes and hypotheses with users to collect feedback

• Launching experiments and evaluating how they perform and how to iterate

• Sharing your work to peers and leadership, async and in-person

• Taking part in weekly design critiques, workshops, all hands and squad meetings

• Thinking and writing about your process and documenting your decisions 

• Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law

Senior level at Etsy means:

• You can run independently or give direction to designers within your team 

• You can lead workshops and effectively align the group around a vision and approach

• You have a track record of designing complex flows and customer journeys

• You can think and design at a system level, not just interface elements or pages

• You’ll regularly make use of your soft skills: listening, negotiating, decision-making

• You’ll spend time providing mentorship to other designers

• You’ll play a key part in hiring, onboarding, and improving our team’s culture and engagement
