The worldwide data management software market is massive (IDC forecasts it to be $136 billion by 2027!). At MongoDB we are transforming industries and empowering developers to build amazing apps that people use every day. We are the leading developer data platform and the first database provider to IPO in over 20 years. Join our team and be at the forefront of innovation and creativity.

At MongoDB, our Design organisation is continuing to make it easier to use cloud databases and data tooling, making them more seamless and more integrated so developers can focus their time on building their apps and not wrestling with their databases.

MongoDB’s Sydney Design team is looking for a Senior Product Designer who is passionate about creating extraordinary, intuitive developer experiences, generating business impact and is obsessed with the quality of their work.

You will work on Relational Migrator: a new MongoDB product that helps customers migrate workloads from relational databases to MongoDB. Developers can analyse their relational database schemas, make decisions on how the relational schema should be represented within a MongoDB schema (e.g. by denormalising or consolidating tables), and synchronise and transform data between the relational database and MongoDB.

Senior Product Designer Responsibilities

  • Improve the developer experience by connecting the user journeys end-to-end, identifying pain points and unmet needs, and drastically improving user productivity and happiness
  • Take semi-scoped projects and augment requirements with outcomes focussed on users
  • Use design tools (Figma, LucidSpark, Google Workspace etc.) and the MongoDB Design System effectively
  • Drive the collaboration and build strong partnerships with design, research, product, engineering, and marketing teams to collaboratively create, align and execute your vision
  • Influence product and design direction through effective storytelling that communicates clear UX vision to stakeholders across products
  • Contribute to the design team by mentoring, inspiring other designers, and raising the bar on the quality of design at MongoDB

Qualifications

  • You have 4+ years of working experience designing digital products and producing a variety of user-centred, design deliverables
  • You have an exceptionally strong portfolio that shows how you solve complex user problems, research and validate your assumptions and solutions, and showcase the impact of your work
  • You have worked closely with cross-functions, either consulting with them or have been embedded in agile software development teams
  • You have an interest in data, data migration, and application modernisation
  • You have used developer tools yourself, and understand, at a high level, common styles, technical concepts and technical requirements
  • You have demonstrated empathy for users, teammates, and stakeholders
  • You have demonstrated excellent visual design skills and have intimate knowledge of common interaction design patterns, components and UX best practices
  • You understand technical concepts and have led the design of large, complex initiatives with little oversight
  • You can elicit ideas from other team members, and brainstorm with other team members
  • You are collaborative and you have influenced others to support user-centered design decisions enthusiastically
  • You care deeply about the impact of your work.

Joining MongoDB Australia

  • You will be employed by an American company that cares about the employee experience in Australia, and that provides the autonomy to do amazing work
  • You will join the Sydney Design team: a talented and motivated design team that practice lean and agile principles, value building together and continuously learning
  • Your design manager is based in Sydney, Australia
  • You will work directly in-person and remotely with Australian team members, and work asynchronously with American and European colleagues
