Job description
At January, we work to ensure that borrowers who fall behind on debt are treated with dignity. Owing to outdated processes and bad actors, traditional debt collection is rife with harassment and fraud. Our products tackle this by helping financial institutions modernize collections, giving borrowers simpler and more compassionate ways to get back on track.
Because of the pandemic, there’s never been a more important time for our mission.
As a Senior Product Designer at January, your work will help borrowers get out of debt and creditors build stronger credit ecosystems. You will help drive our product design strategy through an obsession with the needs of borrowers and creditors. You will work closely with all departments at January, including product, engineering, and analytics to bring new opportunities to life.
You’ll be the voice of our users, helping us make more empathetic experiences for borrowers and more streamlined experiences for creditors. You’ll own all aspects of the design process from user research, to feature ideation, to wireframes, and final designs. This role is perfect for a design leader that wants to have an outsized impact on the direction of a company and product.

Your Impact

  • Use leadership skills to improve design at January overall.
  • User research and product direction. Partner directly with our product team to build and validate hypotheses about new opportunities, playing a significant role in shaping our roadmap and direction.
  • Visual design. Build the visual framework for new product opportunities with wireframes, mockups and stunning pixel perfect designs.
  • User experience. Use the insights you uncover from user research to architect the UX of new product opportunities.

What you bring to the table:

  • 3+ years of experience as a product designer.
  • Experience independently running a full range of design processes: product design, interaction design, and visual design skills.
  • Strong communicator that can oversee the user experience of a product from conception to launch in partnership with product managers, engineers, and analytics partners.
  • Ability to take broad ideas and turn them into something actionable and useful.

What we can offer you:

  • Hybrid and remote work opportunities, allowing you to work in the office and from home on a schedule that works for you
  • Pet-friendly office (only in NYC, for now!)
  • Competitive equity packages, giving you a chance to feel true ownership of your work
  • Unlimited PTO so you can take the time you need to rest and recharge
  • Flexible work hours for better work/life balance
  • Generous new parent leave program for all employees to enjoy bonding time
  • Free lunches for all team members
  • Annual learning and development budget to invest in your professional growth
  • 401k so you can invest in your future
  • Gym membership reimbursement
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Free access to mental well-being platform Spring Health plus 3 free virtual sessions with a Spring Health licensed therapist
  • Commuter benefits for your travel to/from the office
  • Endless growth opportunity and the ability to take on new and exciting challenges
