The worldwide data management software market is massive (IDC forecasts it to be $138 billion by 2026!). At MongoDB we are transforming industries and empowering developers to build amazing apps that people use every day. We are the leading modern data platform and the first database provider to IPO in over 20 years. Join our team and be at the forefront of innovation and creativity.

About the Team

The Product Design team is made up of several teams, each with their own area of focus and set of products. You’ll become a part of our quickly expanding Internal Tools Design team which is focused on bringing intuitive designs to all internal tools being built across multiple teams within MongoDB. You will work specifically within a newly formed Go-To-Market cross-functional team, side-by-side with program managers, engineering, analytics, and our GTM leadership. You’ll develop products that are targeted at driving a step change in efficiency for the business as we evolve our GTM model.

This role can be based out of any of our US offices or remotely within the US.

What You’ll Do

You’ll spend your time discovering a deep understanding of user needs, working with the Go-To-Market team to develop product solutions, and validating them with user research. You will need to collaborate with stakeholders across Product, Engineering, the GTM team, and the broader Sales organization to influence their roadmaps and have a strong voice for our internal GTM products. The products you’ll create will have a massive impact on thousands of MongoDB users across the company. Lastly, you’ll know you’re doing well as you will continuously identify and demonstrate enormous contributions to top line growth and efficiency gains across our entire GTM workforce.

What makes our design team great?

  1. We always advocate for users, while keeping in mind what’s best for each other, the team, and the business.
  2. We encourage open, honest, authentic communication that’s always respectful
  3. We believe that good ideas come from everywhere and that we are the facilitators of great design vs. the sole creators of design
  4. We give each designer appropriate autonomy and ownership over their designs and encourage everyone to add their own touch
  5. “Sign-off” is more about providing guidance and helping to fill in gaps vs. command and control, dictatorial design
  6. We have a strong design feedback culture but are embedded in small teams with engineering and product managers
  7. We like to have fun

Each person that joins our team adds something unique and special, changing the team for the better. If you’re passionate about technology and this Design team sounds like one you’d like to be a part of, we’d love to hear from you!

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic direction to solve complex, open-ended problems that improve MongoDB Go-To-Market products and strongly advocate for expressing user needs through design.
  • Design end-to-end holistic designs, from discovery to ideation, testing, and prototyping of the ideal user experience.
  • Influence product and design direction through compelling storytelling that communicates a clear UX vision to stakeholders across products.
  • Drive the collaboration and build strong partnerships with Design, UX Research, Product, Engineering, GTM, and Sales teams to collaboratively create, align and execute your vision.
  • Contribute to the design team by mentoring, inspiring other designers, and raising the bar on design quality at MongoDB.

Qualifications

  • Excellent visual design skills (layout, typography, visual hierarchy) and intimate knowledge of common interaction design patterns, components, and UX best practices.
  • Experience in planning, executing, and synthesizing user research studies with research goals that directly align with product strategy.
    • Has a positive, resourceful mindset, looking for ways to get things done instead of listing all the potential blockers.
  • You’re experienced with design tools (like Figma, Sketch, Invision, etc.) to create functional prototypes.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and continuous feedback. You are able to tackle complex user problems, research and validate your assumptions and solutions, and showcase the impact of your work.
    • Bonus if you thrive on large, loosely defined user problems and have experience driving teams towards understanding through discovery and prioritization based on user needs.

The Ideal Candidate Will Be…

  • Data-driven. Uses qualitative and quantitative data to iterate on new designs.
  • Collaborative. Able to elicit ideas from other team members, brainstorm with other team members, and bring the best ideas to life through simple and elegant design solutions.
  • Strategic. Think big, and drive design and business goals forward through short-term and long-term roadmaps.
  • Self-starter. Ability to understand technical concepts and lead the design of large, complex initiatives with little oversight.
  • Holistic-minded. Consider the entire end-to-end user journey and how their work overlaps with others.
  • Empathetic. Demonstrates understanding of the users, teammates, and stakeholders.
  • User-focused. Cares deeply about the users, their pain points, and needs.
  • Curious. Constantly asking, “How can we improve?”
  • Cares deeply about the impact of their work.
  • Growthful. Desires to continually improve self, others, and the experience our users receive.
  • Humble. The best ideas for product design may often come from others on the team.
  • Open-minded. Firmly held beliefs are confidently expressed but can change based on new evidence.
  • Personable. Being either introverted or extroverted is fine, but this person must be able to work with roles from all functions and strongly advocate for expressing user needs through design.

To drive the personal growth and business impact of our employees, we’re committed to developing a supportive and enriching culture for everyone. From employee affinity groups to fertility assistance and a generous parental leave policy, we value our employees’ well-being and want to support them along every step of their professional and personal journeys.
