About the role:
We are looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our Docs team. Our docs play a crucial role in helping every Buildkite customer understand and get the most out of our product, so their design is a key part of our overall product experience.
You will own the design for our entire documentation experience, from researching and improving how new customers get started, to the detail of the API documentation that Buildkite power users rely on. As well as working closely with the rest of the Docs team on improvements to our documentation, you'll also work with Product Designers and Visual Designers across the company to ensure our UI and visual identity speak with a single voice.
A typical day for you might look like:
Jumping on a call with customers to talk about common problem that is facing Buildkite customers
Sharing wireframes in a Basecamp post to test out an idea for a new Docs landing page
Pairing with engineers to add some final polish to a new piece of UI before it goes live
Running a quick card-sorting exercise in Figjam with the rest of the Docs team to work out the best way to organise pages within a new section
Working in Figma to design a high fidelity prototype
Creating a quick pull request to fix a minor layout issue that you noticed on one of the Docs pages
What we're looking for:
You’re a born collaborator who listens carefully and communicates clearly
You enjoy solving complex problems, and finding innovative, simple solutions
You're familiar with the specific requirements of docs sites, the way they're used, and the role they fulfil alongside a SaaS product.
Are adept with screen design practices relating to process, wireframing, UI and responsive design
You have a fantastic eye for detail and polish
Some experience with content design would be beneficial
Comfort working remotely. We are a remote-first company, so you will need to be comfortable in taking initiative when team members are offline, as well as working collaboratively through project management tools such as Linear and treating others with empathy and kindness.
Preferred skills:
Experience with HTML, CSS and Javascript, and have used GitHub to collaborate with developers.
Get excited by a new type of CSS property;
Proficiency in developing and presenting visual design stages using tools such as Figma, Adobe and GSuite
