Senior Product Designer, Design Systems

We’re hiring for a founding member of our design systems team that’s excited about creating carefully crafted, purpose-driven interfaces. Over the next year, one of our highest priority projects is building and maintaining a world-class design system. We’ve built a good foundation (it’s called the Alpaca Design System, inspired by our branding), but we’re looking for someone to take it to new heights. You’ll play a critical role in identifying design patterns in Vanta’s product, and then deciding—with input from other stakeholders—what the best visual and interaction designs should be for each. 

• Work closely in a cross-functional team to ensure the design system and all its parts are both beautifully crafted and well-maintained 
• Be the connective glue for designers and engineers working across the Vanta product to evolve design patterns
• Collaborate and coach designers from different teams on how to best leverage design systems in their product work
• Organize robust Figma libraries, and keep them neat and usable
• Write documentation and usage guidelines for components and patterns
• Represent design system best practices to the organization 

• everal years of experience building, owning, and maintaining design systems at scale
• Exceptionally strong visual, UI and interaction skills — you’re a champion for product excellence
• Experience creating engaging icons, illustrations, and animations that bridge the brand identity and user experience
• Experience designing with inclusive and accessible best practices
• A foundational understanding of HTML/CSS, how to design across multiple breakpoints, devices, and locales, and the ability to talk with developers about the implementation details
• The ability to determine when to use the design system, and when to “break the rules” to create the best product possible
• Excitement about socializing a design system across an organization

We started Vanta in 2016 as Equifax had lost every American's social security number, Home Depot had leaked its customers' credit card numbers to hackers, and Facebook admitted that it irresponsibly sent user data to third parties who tried to influence the US election. It was clear that security and privacy had become mainstream issues, and that we all increasingly relied on cloud services to store everything from our personal photos to our communications at work.

Vanta's mission is to be the layer of trust on top of these services, and to secure the internet, increase trust in software companies, and keep consumer data safe.

We do this by building an automated head of security for technology companies, and we use that system to both help a company secure itself and to prove their security to others.

If we succeed in our mission, it should feel irresponsible for users to put data into a product that isn't certified by Vanta, and irresponsible for companies to collect data without using Vanta to secure and monitor themselves.
