Where & How We Work
At HappyCo we work in a multitude of ways depending on where we are and what is going on in our lives. Whether that be fully remote or hybrid remote, or in-office sometimes, we cater for everyone!
We currently have an office in Adelaide, Australia but our team is currently spread across Australia, United States, New Zealand, Canada and we are growing rapidly!

As our HQ is in Adelaide, so if you are based there you have the option of working in the office, at home or in a hybrid capacity! For those in other states, we enable complete remote working!

Being globally distributed means thinking about other time zones and to support this we offer autonomy and flexibility in how you structure your day around core working hours. There might be some collaboration outside of a "normal" 9-5, but we aim to work asynchronously as much as possible.

HappyCo strives to build better communities. So naturally, we are dedicated to making our own community an enjoyable place that lets us do our best work. We’re devoted to building an inclusive, supportive culture that empowers each HappyCo’er to succeed and grow. To learn more about our culture, check out our Glassdoor page and our careers page!

We’re looking for a Senior Product Designer to join our web platform team to help steward and scale our design system and core web experience. You’ll deliver the building blocks and frameworks that empower our experience teams to build great products, and work alongside a technical product manager to direct this growing team.

The web platform team exists as a multiplying force for our product teams at HappyCo, and is helping pave the way for a unified product experience across our suite of B2B products.

If thinking in systems, solving complex cross-platform problems and evangelising best practice product design at a growing startup excites you, this might be the challenge you’re looking for.

During your first week, you will:

  • Get to know our leadership, culture, and values
  • Onboard with the design team, your product triad and product team
  • Read our favorite industry primers
  • Familiarise yourself with our tools (pssst: we use Figma)

During your first six weeks, you will

  • Work with the product triad to deliver on a team outcome
  • Get acquainted with the current state of our design system
  • Acquire knowledge of the current state of our wider product suite

During your first six months, you will

  • Catalog and create a roadmap for design system improvements
  • Engage experience product teams to identify key system improvements that will deliver the most impact
  • Begin documentation of most common components and patterns
  • Drive alignment between our multiple design system implementations (Web, Mobile, Figma), balancing the current constraints and dependencies
  • Envision future opportunities for the design system to scale across products and platforms

What you should have:

  • 4+ years of product design experience, with a background in creating and scaling design systems
  • Competency conducting research and usability testing, and setting outcome-based goals
  • Some familiarity with front-end web technologies such as HTML/CSS/Javascript (bonus points for any technical exposure to complex web frontends such as React/Vue/Angular, etc)
  • Experience designing for multiple levels of audiences and user archetypes within an enterprise or B2B context
  • Experience working within a tech-based design role or digital-focused agency and the ability to work closely with software development teams
  • Motivated by people-centric design processes and a desire to create happiness through delightful experiences
  • Flexibility of schedule to work across timezones with team members based in North America as required

The superpowers we think a design system designer needs:

  • The ability to think in systems, seeing the big picture and the little details at the same time
  • Pushing forward in ambiguity while striving for clarity
  • Prioritising for sustained impact vs helping in the moment
  • The patience to see how far we have to go, and not be overwhelmed
  • Empowering teams instead of enforcing standards
  • Leveraging technology to serve humanity in a way that is accessible to all
Our Benefits

Also some of the added benefits you’ll experience while working at HappyCo are:

Competitive remuneration
Opportunity to work for one of the fastest growing technology companies in the Proptech industry in Australia
