What’s the role?
As a Senior Product Designer on our App Core Experiences team, you will help craft the future of Etsy’s native experiences to help people all over the world to discover and buy unique, handcrafted items and support makers to grow their creative businesses.
Joining a team focused on and passionate about improving the core ecommerce experience in the app, we see you defining and crafting solutions that improve the buying experience. There will be collaboration with cross-functional product partners in engineering, research, analytics, and product management. We’re looking for you to share your deep knowledge of native app design and UX patterns, and the landscape of user experiences. You’ll be setting design strategy and priorities and running experiments to optimize the core shopping experience. A tried and tested set of processes for solving different types of customer and business problems will be required as well as knowing when to apply the right tool for the job.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Product Design Manager. For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States who are either remote, flex, or office-based. What’s product design like at Etsy?
Typically, product designers at Etsy work in a squad with a product manager, 3-5 engineers, researcher and analyst. Together they drive their own part of Etsy, deliver solutions to stimulating problems and get feedback directly from customers.
What does the day-to-day look like?
- Discovering insights, opportunities, and requirements
- Testing prototypes and hypotheses with users to collect feedback
- Launching experiments and evaluating how they perform and how to iterate
- Sharing your work to peers and leadership, async and in-person
- Taking part in weekly design critiques, workshops, all hands and squad meetings
- Thinking and writing about your process and sharing your decisions
- Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.
Qualifications
Senior level at Etsy means you:
- Run independently or give direction to designers within your team
- Can lead workshops and effectively align the group around a vision and approach
- Have a track record of crafting sophisticated flows and customer journeys
- Can think and design at a system level, not just interface elements or pages
- Regularly make use of your soft skills: listening, collaborating, decision-making
- Spend time providing mentorship to other designers
- Play a key part in hiring, onboarding, and improving our team’s culture and engagement
Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
- Effective articulation of ideas and design solutions
- Expressing feedback with courtesy and honesty
- Tolerance for ambiguity and healthy curiosity
- Translation of quantitative & qualitative insights into design decisions
