Senior Product Design Manager, Buyer Experience

What’s the role?  

As a Senior Product Design Manager of our Compare Initiative, you will guide your design team in delivering the best experience for our buyers so that they can discover and purchase the ideal items from our unique, global marketplace, while making purposeful connections with our passionate and dedicated sellers.

You will collaborate with partners from Product, Engineering, Research, and Analytics to optimize the core purchasing funnel, on both our web and native products. You’ll identify the highest impact new opportunities, and lead your team to turn them into compelling customer experiences. We are looking for a design leader to guide this team in setting our design and product strategy, furthering our customer-centric design practices, identifying connections with designers and design leaders on other teams across the company, and helping our product design team to evolve and grow as we scale.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Director of Product Design and the base salary range will be 172,000.00 - 224,000.00 USD per year. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Brooklyn office in an in-person or flex capacity. Candidates living within commutable distance of the Brooklyn Hub, may be the first to be considered. What’s this team like at Etsy?

The Buyer Compare team is accountable for making it as easy as possible for buyers on Etsy to compare items and make a purchase. They support our buyers by providing productive browse pathways, removing distractions, and providing the optimal experience for comparison shopping. The team is dedicated to crafting the best buyer experience to drive conversion and deliver on our topline company health metrics via iterative experimentation.

What does the day-to-day look like?

• Lead product designers across four fully staffed product squads by mentoring and creating career growth opportunities for those on your team
• Collaborate with cross-functional leads to craft the vision, strategy, and operations of your initiatives
• Ensure we are building the right products for our customers, and help teams take the best near-term steps toward their long-term vision
• Advocate for our customer, and guide teams to deliver well-executed and on-brand experiences by using our design system
• Lead regular design reviews, critiques, and brainstorming sessions for your teams
• Facilitate continuous learning and improvement for the product design team and its members
• Recruit and hire outstanding design talent and facilitate onboarding of new designers
• Partner with our Design Systems team to make plans to evolve the components and styles for our internal tooling needs
• Work alongside the broader Design Leadership team to craft our teams’ culture, processes, and tools

Senior Product Design Manager at Etsy means:

• You have a track record of leading design strategy for complex initiatives and growing design leaders
• You lead through ambiguity, making use of your soft skills to persuade and build alignment with senior leaders around a vision and approach
• You use holistic thinking to identify customer experience opportunities that create impact across the organization
• You’re an experienced design leader who can help shape our design management practices and are sought out as a mentor by other design leaders
• You incorporate advancements in the field of product design to shape the skills and practices of our team

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• You raise the design bar and can run independently or give direction to designers within your team 
• You can lead workshops and effectively align the group around a vision and approach
• You have a track record of working with complex flows and customer journeys
• You can think and design at a system level, not just interface elements or pages
• You are able to context switch and apply a wide variety of product design skills (e.g., design thinking, design strategy, user problem definition, information architecture, service design)
• You’re passionate about design systems and accessibility
• You’ll regularly make use of your soft skills: listening, negotiating, decision-making
• You’ll spend time providing mentorship to other designers
• You’ll play a key part in onboarding, and improving our team’s culture and engagement
