As the world's largest car sharing marketplace, Turo is growing and hiring talent in the US, Canada, United Kingdom, France, and Australia. Our collaborative teams encourage you to be curious and bring new ideas that will drive our company’s mission.  Turo prides itself on its culture that celebrates diversity and gives everyone space to learn and grow.

About our team

At Turo, we recognize that great design is the cornerstone of our mission to revolutionize how the world uses its 1.5+ billion cars. It's not just about looks; it's about enabling entrepreneurial hosts to thrive, helping guests find their ideal car for every journey, and supporting them before, during, and after their trip. Here, design is not just valued—it's essential, driving our commitment to research-led, customer-centric experiences that empower our community and enhance every trip.

Your role and impact

As a visionary leader reporting to the SVP of Design, you will engage your team of six designers at the forefront of transforming our insurance products and services, creating a bold new path in the car sharing industry. Some examples of your team’s problem spaces include but are not limited to, host and guest protection plans, vehicle quality and safety, identity verification, managing incidentals (such as tickets, tolls, and EV charging reimbursements), managing damage and claims, and optimizing our trip fees to grow Turo profitably.

Your role is central to Turo's ethos, ensuring every product interaction is not just cohesive and high-quality but also supports our team's mission: to deliver an insurance and protection experience that is fair, fast, and hassle-free while utilizing the power of our data to manage financial risk for Turo.

Your leadership will be pivotal in helping your team uncover customer and business needs through deep research; therefore, you should be adept at seeing patterns in data and coaching your team to turn those observations into product design strategies, enabling your team to drive innovation, navigate trade-offs with cross-functional partners, and lead strategic design initiatives. These aren't just tasks; they're the building blocks of setting experiential ‘north stars’ for Turo, encapsulating our commitment to a user experience that’s intuitive and backed by data-informed decision-making.

What you will do

  • Team Leadership: Serve as a dynamic role model within our design team, fostering a culture of creativity, quality, and great outcomes underpinned by data-informed design decisions.
  • Design Strategy: Craft and articulate a compelling long-term UX roadmap for our Risk and Protection experiences in close collaboration with cross-functional partners.
  • Design Oversight: Ensure teams are optimally following our end-to-end design process, from identifying user problems to implementing design solutions, ensuring alignment with our design principles, product objectives, and customer-centric approach.
  • Design Impact: Steer teams towards solutions that intuitively meet customer needs and achieve successful business outcomes, informed by robust user research and data analytics.
  • Mentorship and Team Development: Manage and nurture the growth of Product Designers, providing coaching and mentorship to cultivate their skills and align their contributions with Turo’s design principles and career development rubric.
  • Tools and Operational Enhancements: Collaborate with design leadership to refine and enhance our design tools and operations, boosting efficiency, creativity, and consistency across the team.
  • Design Vision: Coach and guide your team to deliver innovative ‘north star’ designs that deliver new value and drive Turo forward, embodying our commitment to redefining the car-sharing experience through design.

Your profile

  • At least 5 years of experience leading and managing a design team, with a proven track record of nurturing talent and fostering a collaborative and innovative design culture.
  • Minimum of 8 years in designing mobile products that have been successfully shipped to the public, demonstrating deep expertise in native mobile design.
  • A compelling portfolio showcasing work executed by a team under your leadership. This should include detailed narratives of how your design contributions led to quantifiable business and user experience improvements.
  • Proven ability to guide design vision and strategy based on qualitative and quantitative data analysis, using these insights to develop strong design hypotheses and inform strategic design direction.
  • A strong commitment to a user-centered approach in designing software, focusing on understanding and meeting customers' real needs.
  • Demonstrated experience in working cross-functionally to drive design strategy, vision, and execution, effectively collaborating with teams across product, engineering, and data.
  • Experience in attracting, hiring, and nurturing design talent and building a team that excels in creativity and innovation.
  • A collaborative, low-ego approach to working with others, valuing teamwork and collective problem-solving.
  • Flexibility and good judgment.

Bonus if you have

  •  Experience designing for mobility, travel or insurance-related products
