We are currently seeking a Sr Design Manager to help build our retail development facility brand standards group for North American, EMEA and APAC markets. This position will be based in our headquarters in Newark CA, with occasional travel to project sites. 

The roles requires a skilled professional with an architectural background, min 15 years commercial project execution experience, and min 5-10 years of experience working with or for a high-end retail or automotive brand, developing and maintaining prototypes and brand standards guidelines from concept through construction documentation.

  • You will:
  • Work on regional Lucid brand standards development, both internally and in partnership with external A/E professionals
  • Manage a reoccurring standard update and change management process for all prototypes within a region
  • Lead internal programming reviews on a regular basis to collect, synthesize and incorporate Lucid stakeholder feedback and changes to brand standards
  • Lead and manage external design professionals in the development and maintenance of construction documentation standards
  • Review and comment on A/E drawings and specs in minute detail
  • Develop internal concepts for new facility prototypes for internal review
  • Develop new fixture concepts
  • Research and propose new options for finishes, hardware, systems, products, lighting, and FF&E for potential incorporation into brand standards
  • Engage and partner with vendors to prepare mockups
  • Assist in onboarding new A/E vendors by conducting prototype training seminars
  • Lead internal team training seminars on prototype and brand standards topics
  • Assist in developing internal QA processes 

Qualifications

  • Min 15+ yrs. experience in the architectural design and construction industry
  • Min 5-10 yrs. of experience developing and maintaining facility prototypes and brand standards guidelines for high-end retail or automotive brands, from concept through construction documentation standards. 
  • A proven track record of managing design team professionals and delivering high-quality projects on time and on schedule
  • In depth, hands-on knowledge of commercial design and construction in the automotive and/or high-end retail development environment, with particular focus on site development, storefronts, interior detailing, millwork, MEPFP, lighting and low voltage systems
  • Extensive understanding of North American technical documentation and construction standards for drawings and specifications. 
  • Extensive understanding of regional architectural products, materials, and system vendors
  • Past experience working in an A/E design firm, along with experience working in a retail development group on the client side
  • A general familiarity with building codes
  • Experience with automotive building types and/or technical coordination of similar equipment systems preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably architectural
  • Required software experience: Revit, AutoCAD, Rhino, Sketchup, Bluebeam, Adobe Suite, Smartsheets or MS Project
  • A portfolio demonstrating past work experience with brand standards
