About the role:

Xero’s ‘Connected Workplaces’ division offers several products that support small businesses. The purpose of this division is to help small business owners build better workplaces by freeing up time to focus on their people, not processes and paperwork. We will do this by bringing together a suite of tools to provide a seamless and personalised experience for the employer and their employees. This is a bold new program of work that has significant business support and visibility, and you’ll have the opportunity to collaborate with many product teams in Xero to bring our vision to life.

This role sits within our Xero Me mobile team - Xero Me is our mobile app for employees. It lets employees self-manage their pay, leave, timesheets and expense claims on-the-go, all in a single place, reducing the need for paperwork and manual processes.

As our Product Owner you will be working with a talented development team and responsible for executing on our product vision and roadmap by creating and delivering innovative solutions that solve real world customer problems.

What you'll do:

  • Understanding customer problems; you will be the champion of the ‘what’ and the ‘why’ within our product teams
  • Work with our product manager and product owner to help define the product roadmap and agree on the key goals, success measures and timeframes. You’ll discuss potential impacts with the product manager and be aligned on what’s needed and what you’re working towards.
  • Define a product backlog that focuses on achieving agreed product initiatives from the roadmap, and you will be able to guide and focus the delivery team on what problems need to be solved as priorities and why.
  • Work with the product team to ensure the work is being planned in a way that realises the vision, roadmap and the customer value it was intended to, and in an agreed time frame.
  • Work closely with other teams from the wider business, such as support, documentation, marketing, training and sales, who help take your solutions to market - and be used by millions of people every day. 
  • Liaise with CRM, Integration and Data teams, to coordinate any internal/business systems and reporting development.
  • Represent Xero’s product and be able to present at internal and external events or community forums. 
  • Contribute to cultivating a fun, creative and motivated culture across a distributed team, that lives and breathes our Xero values.

What you'll bring with you:

  • 2+ years experience as a Product Owner in a software company
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills
  • Customer centric attitude
  • Inclusive attitude and agile mindset
  • Experience with mobile and/or remote teams a benefit
  • Ability to break down complex problems, deliver real-world business outcomes and handle changing priorities.
  • Love of building beautiful, quality software, coupled with a knowledge of design thinking
