This role is a Product Manager who reports directly to the CEO. As a product manager on our apps team, you will be responsible for building out end to end products for the web. This role will be focused on products within our sports vertical. This means that you will be building out full fledged functionality for millions of end customers who purchase and browse sports-related products on Whop. In addition to allowing 3rd party developers to build on Whop, we want some apps that receive high usage to be built internally. You can view our App Store docs here: https://dev.whop.com/apps/create-an-app
As a product manager building Whop Apps, you will have significant responsibility over numerous revenue generating products. You will work directly with our designers, engineers, and go to market teams to deeply understand what is being built from the beginning of the design phase to production. You are expected to be highly opinionated and passionate about all aspects of user experience and product. At the same time, you can actually bring highly complex products to life – through clear to-do lists and communication with technical team members. At Whop, product managers are drivers of our engineering team and design team. As a product manager, you need to be highly capable of communicating with other engineers to complete your initiatives with quality and urgency. You are expected to help spec and ticket projects from what needs to be designed all the way to what URL a page or flow will live on. Once live, you will be capable of reporting consistently on the success or failures of the product.
This specific role is focused on our sports apps. This includes a feed for people to post sports picks, player research reports, and to allow people in the community to chat with one another. You should be capable of owning an 8 week roadmap for the product you are working on, preparing tickets for sprints, reporting KPIs during bi-weekly meetings, and interviewing candidates as we scale the engineering team. The most important part of this role is that you are helping bring concepts to life, with both speed, quality and simplicity.
Your first 60 days will look like the following:
Within 7 days, you will have an understanding of our product, database schema, design process, and all key stakeholders who you will be working with.
Within 30 days, you will be well underway on your first product. You will have worked closely with the product team to create a clear plan of attack and designs are well underway. An example project in the sports vertical is building an app where sports bettors can post their picks with ease.
Within 60 days, your first project will be in production.
You understand the difference between an excellent product and a mediocre product. You are ruthless, don’t let anyone stand in your way from bringing ideas into reality, and are highly opinionated. At the same time, you can admit when you are wrong and will throw your full support behind more sound logic. You are obsessed with simplicity, and you love building things from 0-1, with incredibly limited direction. You have a sharp eye for detail and are straightforward with your feedback towards others. You don’t leave a room until all loose ends are tied up and everyone is clear on next steps.
You have spent at least 5 years owning consumer facing products that have been used by over 1M monthly users. Because you will be building from 0-1, you will need to demonstrate a history of “idea” -> “users”.
You’re someone who wants to join a startup that is passionate about helping entrepreneurs grow and thrive. The company is growing 10x YoY and you’re someone who can move with urgency, take initiative, and do whatever it takes to win.
