We have a people-centric approach toward culture and community and we strive to iterate in a way that puts our team members first and prepares our company for growth. Join Planet and be a part of our mission to change the way people see the world.

Planet is a global company with employees working remotely world wide and joining us from offices in San Francisco, Washington DC, Germany, and The Netherlands.

About the Role:

Planet is looking for an exceptional Product Manager for our Land Surface Temperature Product. As part of Planet’s core business strategy you will bring the value of Earth Observation to a much wider audience than traditional geospatial users. The role sits in the Planetary Variable (PV) product organization that is responsible for creating PVs, in other words “meaningful measurements of conditions on the surface of the Earth, derived from satellite observations''. PVs are data products that are based on the scientific expertise of industry-leading remote sensing scientists. Our team develops advanced algorithms that process satellite data from Planet and from public constellations to produce information that is usable without the need for extensive data cleaning and processing. You can learn more about what we are building here and here

As a Product Manager Planetary Variables, you will drive the strategy and development of the Land Surface Temperature PV. You will be primarily responsible for understanding the end user application, defining the technical requirements needed, and ensuring an excellent product-market-fit for the current and next-generation versions of the product. This requires tight coordination across the broader go-to-market team and relentless drive to create a customer-centric, sustainable and profitable business.

Product Managers are not the direct supervisors of their engineering teams. To be effective you must demonstrate a strong commitment to Planet’s cultural values, agile principles and leadership through influence to succeed in this role. You will closely partner with an Engineering Manager and a full development team to prototype and scale Planet’s current and future Land Surface Temperature product versions. In addition to this team, you will coordinate closely with Sales and Product Marketing to understand our customer needs, and the broader engineering teams to understand Planet’s tech stack.

Impact You’ll Own:

  • Building an end-to-end customer-centric product from production to delivery
  • Ensuring consistent execution of product lifecycle process from concept to launch through excellent product management and cross-functional collaboration
  • Setting product priorities by ensuring that product capabilities meet the needs of the market with a viable business model
  • Working across the go-to-market team to ensure the proper business model alignment
  • Ensuring that the Land Surface Temperature product development is clearly represented in Planet’s commercial, technical and product roadmaps
  • Acting as Planet’s ambassador for the Land Surface Temperature product to potential partners, customers and internal stakeholders
  • Inspiring and motivating your team, fostering a culture of innovation, and communicating effectively across the organization and with key customers

What You Bring:

  • 3-5 years of experience as a product manager with demonstrated success developing customer centric data products
  • Demonstrated experience in building successful cross-functional partnerships and successfully navigating complex stakeholder environments
  • The ability to make decisions that align with Planet’s technical and strategic roadmap as well as Planet’s core values
  • The ability to coordinate resources across multiple areas of the company
  • Interpersonal skills using team alignment that can consistently be delivered and maintained
  • The ability to think strategically and craft a compelling product vision
  • Outstanding planning, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be energetic, creative, and self-motivated
  • Experience with satellite imagery, remote sensing, and/or Geographical Information Systems is a big plus

Benefits While Working at Planet:

  • Additional company winter holidays and regular global days off
  • Remote friendly work environment and flexible working hours
  • Contribution to our growth by offering equity options for employees
  • Giving back to the community - one day per quarter for charitable work
  • Learning and Tuition Reimbursement
  • Regular hack-weeks and meetup events to exchange knowledge
  • Home office budget
  • Employee Resource Groups providing empowering spaces for connection and mentorship
